Update on Employee Development Day March 16

Professional Development Day at SFCC takes place Friday, March 16. The college will be closed to the public and no support services will be available — this includes food services, custodial, book store, the fitness center, among others. Kids Campus, La Familia and the Santa Fe Higher Education Center will remain open.

The session begins at 8:15 a.m. in the Campus Center with breakfast, a short introduction to the day’s events and an overview of the lockdown exercise. Read the full memo.

The afternoon sessions will offer a choice of topics of interest. Some sessions are limited in capacity, so it’s recommended that you arrive early so that you can sign up for the ones you prefer. Please view a schedule of the afternoon sessions ahead of time in order to plan your afternoon.

HEC Building Repairs begin Tuesday

Mooring USA Construction will begin repairs on the north side of the HEC building Tuesday. Repairs are expected to be completed during the first week of April. For more information, contact Plant Operations and Maintenance, ext. 1670.

Santa Fe Planning Commission Meeting March 15

The Santa Fe County Planning Commission will hold its next meeting at 5 p.m., March 15 at the Toby Roybal Memorial Gymnasium at Santa Fe High School. Some students and faculty at SFCC have been involved with the Santa Fe Gateway Alliance, an active opponent of the proposed Pilot Flying J truck stop, south of the city at the intersection of N.M. 14 and Interstate 25. Members of the SFCC community are welcome to attend in order to stay updated or make their voices heard on potential changes to the complexion of SFCC’s surrounding neighborhoods.

Achieving the Dream Scholarship nominations

Nominate your student for the Harvey Lincoln Scholarship!

The Harvey Lincoln Scholarship Fund provides need-based scholarships for current Achieving the Dream (ATD) community college students who have persisted in their studies despite educational, personal, or financial obstacles and are attending Achieving the Dream Institutions. The scholarship award is $1,000. The inaugural scholarship award will be made to one student in 2018.

Harvey Lincoln Scholarship Fund student scholarship nominations may be made by staff, faculty members, or administrators at current Achieving the Dream institutions.

Nominations are due March 19, 2018. The online nomination form and requirements are available on Achieving the Dream’s website.

OIT Maintenance March 25

OIT will be performing system patching and maintenance on Sunday, March 25. Systems will be affected by intermittent outages. For more information, contact the OIT Service Desk, ext. 1222. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Construction Update for the 'dirt room'

Construction on the ‘dirt room’ (Room 327) will begin Monday, March 26. Access to the hallway will be limited during construction. The project is anticipated to be completed in November. Read more about the project and to see pictures of the room pre-construction.

Two Opportunities: Mental Health First Aid Training

Santa Fe Community College in partnership with CYFD will host two opportunities to attend the Mental Health First Aid training course on campus. In this 8-hour training, participants will learn about the potential risk factors and warning signs for a range of mental health problems. Trainees will become familiar with a 5-step action plan to help an individual in crisis or connect them with appropriate professional care. The training will be offered Thursday, April 5 and Friday, April 6, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. This one-day course is free and open to the public. Space is limited. To register, please call 505-428-1907.

April 6 and 7: Art Business Summit, get discounted tickets

The Clark Hulings Fund for Visual Artists and the Art Business Institute are offering discounted tickets to the Second Annual Art Business Summit for all SFCC students, faculty, staff and alumni. The summit is a business development seminar for working artists. The seminar takes place on Friday and Saturday, April 6-7, here on campus.

Sculpture Union exhibit open at Molecule

SFCC’s student sculpture club, the Sculpture Union, are featured in the current exhibit at Molecule, 1226 Flagman Way. The exhibit opened last week and will be on display through April 30. Molecule is open Monday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Sculpture Union is a group of more than 40 students, faculty and staff at the Community College who are committed to supporting and improving the creativity, vitality, and visibility of the sculpture program and the artists at Santa Fe Community College.

Thanks for a great Dental Assistant event last week

A meet and greet hosted by SFCC Dental Department and SMILES Club in celebration of Dental Assistant Recognition week was a great success. All participants shared their experiences as dental assistants. Priscilla Baldonado helped cut the cake (20+ years of service). Participants won prizes in a free raffle drawing. Dental Program accepting applications for fall 2018

SFCC’s Dental Department is accepting applications now for earning a Certificate in Dental Assisting, an Associate degree in Dental Health and/or a Certificate in Expanded Function Dental Auxiliary (EFDA) applications for fall 2018.

High School Equivalency/GED Classes for Spring 'Session B'

The application period for classes to prepare for the High School Equivalency/GED tests is open now. Classes begin March 26 in Spanish and English.

New students must fill out and submit an orientation packet. Packets are available now at the Adult Education office in Room 502. New students must attend an orientation session. The last information session is 5 to 9 p.m., Wed., March 14. Registration for new students will take place at orientation.

College Transfer Day

Meet representatives from New Mexico’s four-year colleges and universities at SFCC’s College Transfer Day Tuesday, April 3, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Main Hallway. Interested students should bring their transcripts with them. SFCC students should order official transcripts no later than March 15 to be sure to have them in time. Before leaving the campus to enjoy Spring Break, please be sure to set your out-of-office voicemail and email replies. Also, be sure to shut down your computers.

SFCC Employee Satisfaction Survey begins March 26

On Monday, March 26th all SFCC faculty and staff will receive an email invitation with a unique survey link from Ruffalo Noel Levitz (RNL). The survey will remain open through Monday, April 9, 2018 at midnight. You may complete it from any location where you can access your email. Please be prepared to spend 15-20 minutes completing it. A paper survey for Spanish speakers is available through the Office of Planning and Institutional Effectiveness (OPIE). Only Spanish speaking staff have the option to fill out the survey on paper. Supervisors should ensure that all other staff members have access to a computer with an internet connection to complete the survey.

The survey results should be received from RNL in late May or early June. A summary of the results will be shared with the campus after the faculty return for the Fall 2018 semester.
