WIOA Orientation/Information Sessions at SFCC

Looking for a resource to fund and support 2019-2020 retraining, certificate, or degree in a job growth industry? The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) program is often a good resource for those ineligible for Pell grants and other, usual financial aid. Learn more about WIOA and eligibility at an orientation session. Sessions are open to faculty, staff, students, and community members.

The next session at SFCC is at 4 p.m. Monday, July 29 in Room 204-I. Sessions are generally every other week here and at the New Mexico Workforce Connection Office. For more information contact Pat Delgado, Career Development Specialist at 505-474-5025.

Grantsmanship Training Program, Aug. 5-9

SFCC’s Continuing Education Department and Georgia O’Keeffe Museum will co-host a Grantsmanship Training Program Aug. 5-9 on SFCC’s campus. The intensive, five-day, hands-on workshop for nonprofit and government grantseekers will guide participants step by step through all stages of planning programs, researching funding sources and writing proposals.

Candidates for Governing Board seat need to file on Aug. 27

Two positions on the Santa Fe Community College Governing Board will be determined during the election on Nov. 5.

Those interested in becoming a candidate must file a declaration of candidacy and sworn statement of intent with the County Clerk between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Aug. 27. SFLR Call for Submissions!

The submission period for the 2019 issue of The Santa Fe Literary Review is now open through November 1. This year’s theme is The Spaces Between Exploring freedom, distance, movement and time.

Register now for Tennis Tournament Sept 6-8

Tennis Tournament at the FEC, September 6-8. Men’s & Women’s Singles, Men’s & Women’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles at the William C. Witter Fitness Education Center (FEC).

First rounds will start at 4 p.m., Friday, Sept. 6. Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 7 and 8, the rounds will start at 8:30 a.m. Participants must be at least 18 years of age with a 3.5 rating or lower.

The registration deadline is August 30. Registration fees are $25 per person for individual events and $30 for doubles per team. For more information, contact the School of Fitness and Education at 505-428-1751.

FEC Facelift in progress

Stucco renovations on the William C. Witter Fitness Center started July 16. The project will address all the cracking, peeling and deterioration of the FEC exterior stucco wall systems. The work is planned for a total of 90 days.

Paramedic program accepting applications through July 31

SFCC’s Emergency Medical Services Institute is accepting Paramedic Training Program applications now until 5 p.m. July 31 for the certificate program that starts October 14 and runs through December 2020.

Santa Fe Lodgers Association giving one-class scholarships to 14 students this fall

The Santa Fe Lodgers Association hosted a very successful fundraiser event at Meow Wolf June 5 for scholarship funds for the Hospitality & Tourism Program.

They are now using the funds to pay the tuition costs for one class for 14 students this fall. They hope this will encourage current hotel employees and students to follow the career path the hotel industry offers here in Santa Fe.

Dr. Aamna Nayyar, Director of SFCC’s Department of Dental Health, was recognized for her dedication to the SFCC Dental Programs by Lt. Governor Howie C. Morales. Martina C’de Baca, Office Administrator from the office of the Lt. Governor read the “Recognition and Acknowledgement” and presented the Certificate of Recognition to Dr. Nayyar, at the Dental Pinning Ceremony on Friday, July 26.

Join the trail running group on Tuesdays and Thursdays; and walking group on Thursdays

The college now offers employees a meet-up for current and “newbie” trail runners in front of the William C. Fitness Education Center at 6:30 a.m. every Tuesday and Thursday. Please note: The time has changed to 6:30 a.m., so runners will be ready for their workday. All are welcome. Please note: The running group has added Thursdays due to increased interest.

The Walking Group has moved to Thursdays 7:30-8:30 a.m., also meeting in front of the FEC.

For questions in regards to the trail running, please contact Herman Garcia and questions in regards to the Walking Group should go to Ute Jannsen-Kerr.
