Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT)
In SFCC’s Advanced Emergency Medical Technician Program (AEMT) you’ll learn from experienced professionals who are committed to providing high-quality emergency medical technician (EMT) training. The advanced emergency medical technician program or AEMT, offers students the ability to expand upon the foundational basic life support skills taught in the EMT program. AEMT’s can provide some advanced life support skills to patients. The AEMT program covers prehospital pharmacology, medication administration, and intravenous access while also providing a more in-depth education on medical and trauma patient care. The program is 16 weeks and prepares students for the NREMT certification exam. AEMT certification is ideal for students seeking employment with an ambulance service or fire department. It also is highly recommended for students seeking admission into the paramedic program.
To apply to this program, please see the Paramedic Application Checklist and complete the EMSI Paramedic Program Application in addition to the college admissions form.
Upon completing the program, graduates are prepared to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) certification exams, and obtain a NM state license at the Basic, Intermediate and Paramedic levels. SFCC’s EMSI graduates at all levels have an excellent track record in passing their NREMT exams at significantly higher than average rates.
2017-2020 NREMT exam pass rate for Certificate in EMT – Intermediate Graduates (AEMT) 85%
2017-2020 NREMT exam pass rate for Paramedic Program Graduates (Certificate and Degree) 98%
EMTs and paramedics are in high demand around the state and the nation, with employment expected to grow 11% nationally between now and 2030, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Paramedics and EMTs earn an annual median salary of $36,930.
