Study American Sign Language Interpreting. Whatever field you choose, SFCC gives you the resources and tools for success. If you can dream it, you can do it at SFCC!

Spanish & World Languages

In addition to Spanish, you can take classes in Arabic, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Mandarin, Portuguese, and more.

American Sign Language Interpreting

Bridge the gap between the deaf and hearing worlds in the American Sign Language Interpreting Program.
Become an interpreter for the deaf and people with hearing loss. Acquire skills in cross-cultural communication and quick decision making during instant translation. Courses cover grammar and linguistics, an introduction to deaf culture, psychology and sociology, and composition and rhetoric.

Expand your knowledge of Western Civilization. Brush up on U.S. history or the history of New Mexico. Explore the Humanities. Best of all, you can study history in the most inspiring environments — at the New Mexico Museum of History and on the Plaza in downtown Santa Fe.

Creative Writing

SFCC’s Creative Writing Program focuses on three genres: fiction, poetry and literary nonfiction, including the memoir and personal essay. You’ll study with award-winning authors, draft a manuscript in the portfolio class and can apply to apprentice with SFCC’s acclaimed literary magazine, the Santa Fe Literary Review.

Human Services

Learn to help those who most need assistance. The Human Services Program is a career-oriented path that gives you a solid grounding in group counseling, conflict resolution, the psychology of addictive behavior, and the effects of drug abuse and substance abuse in families. Study post-traumatic stress disorder, coping strategies in crisis intervention and counseling ethics. Develop interpersonal skills and multicultural understanding. All students do an internship, providing work in the community while receiving academic credit.

To try to better understand yourself and others, or to prepare yourself for a professional career, SFCC’s Psychology Program courses will introduce you to the foundations of psychology as well as abnormal, cognitive, social and developmental psychology. Study the brain and behavior, learning and memory, human sexuality, and the practice of effective communication and counseling skills. Intended for those who plan to transfer to earn a bachelor’s degree.

Do you have a passion for sharing knowledge with others? Are you supportive and nurturing? There is always a need for good teachers. Build your abilities in communication, computers, problem solving and organization. Learn about the teaching profession and under-stand diversity. Be on the forefront for applying best practices. Get a start on your teaching career with a certificate or degree from SFCC.
