Unlock your artistic potential. Focus on filmmaking, build a website or cultivate culinary expertise. Faculty members are professional artists, award-winning poets and novelists. Film
Be a part of the exciting film industry! Santa Fe is a major filmmaking center, attracting film and television productions, actors and crews from around the world. Enroll in SFCC’s Film Program and learn about becoming a grip, screenwriter, cameraman, sound engineer, director, and more. Work on local productions and gain valuable hands-on experience.
Media Arts
High-tech intersects with cutting-edge design in the Media Arts Program. Study 3D animation and game design, graphic and interactive design, audio production, digital imaging, web design, motion graphics, and more. Learn to create television and movie graphics. Get the skills you need to launch a career as a multimedia artist or join a creative agency.
Fine Arts
SFCC’s Fine Arts Program offers courses in painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, jewelry, metal arts and fine woodworking. Learn to throw and hand build ceramics or sculpt micaceous pottery. Discover the art of figure drawing or painting with watercolor and oil paints. Study the elements of silversmithing and jewelry design. Learn the art of fine woodworking, from woodcarving and furniture design to joinery and woodturning.
Practice and explore your artistic abilities in well-equipped studios. SFCC instructors are acclaimed artists, dedicated to helping you launch a successful career as a fine artist. Students exhibit their work in the Visual Arts Gallery on campus.
Culinary Arts
Participate in experience-based learning in the Culinary Arts Program. Master cooking basics in the college’s state-of-the-art commercial kitchens, how to prep and serve food in the student-run East Wing Eatery or best practices in managing a food truck. Student “cheflings” apprentice with top Santa Fe restaurants and caterers. Experience Italian cuisine and culture through the study abroad program’s annual trip to Italy. SFCC’s chef-instructors have helped students launch restaurant and hospitality careers. Graduates have great job prospects in Santa Fe, a tourist mecca.
Photography
If you’re focus is on the camera, the Photography Program offers diverse classes in digital photography, black-and-white film photography, studio lighting, camera use, the art of seeing, and more. SFCC’s program brings together alternative and state-of-the-art photographic processes with historic methods. Explore ways to capture an image. Create professional, quality photographic prints that are gallery worthy. Develop expertise in photographing artwork. The quality photography studio at SFCC provides a professional and inspiring environment for you to discover and expand your creative talents and skills.
Creative Writing
SFCC’s Creative Writing Program focuses on three genres: fiction, poetry and literary nonfiction, including the memoir and personal essay. Study with award-winning authors. Draft a manuscript in the portfolio class. Apprentice with SFCC’s acclaimed literary magazine, the Santa Fe Literary Review. Explore SFCC’s creative writing classes for professional or individual goals.
Fashion Design
Custom-tailor a career in fashion. Study fashion illustration, ethnic design, textiles and pattern making. Maximize your creative abilities in a career as an apparel or accessories designer, product designer, stylist, buyer, and more. Show your designs in fashion shows in town and in the Visual Arts Gallery on campus. Participate in a yearly trip to the famous Trade Mart in New York City. SFCC is the only public college in New Mexico to offer a certificate in Fashion Design. A Fashion Design Club organizes trips and events for fashion students to design marts in New York, Dallas and Las Vegas.
Architectural Design
If you love the world’s great buildings and have a knack for spatial design, enroll in SFCC’s Architectural Design Program. Study pre-engineering, design methods, principles and theories. Learn about building materials. Master design and illustration software programs. Assemble a professional portfolio. Buildings on the SFCC campus provide study opportunities, from the Trades and Advanced Technology Center, with its LEED Platinum status, to the Health Sciences building, with its elegant biowall.
Interior Design
Interested in color, design concepts and spatial layouts? SFCC’s Interior Design Program introduces you to interior design and textiles. Get the skills you need to work as a commercial or industrial designer, design director or set and exhibit designer. SFCC is the only public college in New Mexico to offer an interior design degree. Graduates are eligible to take the national qualifications exam. SFCC Interior Design students frequently win top honors in national competitions.
