About the Program

The Architecture and Interior Design program focuses on assisting students in two ways. First, to assist the student in transferring a to university Architecture or Interior Design program. Secondly, to prepare students for direct employment in an architecture or an interior design office. Employment in the architectural and interior design profession has become progressively competitive and often requires a Bachelors of Architecture or Interior Design for entry-level positions.  Accordingly, the Architecture and Interior Design program is primarily focused on transferring qualified students to university programs offering those degrees.

TRANSFER PROGRAM

The Architecture Program offers a full complement of design, history, theory, and technical courses coordinated to facilitate transferring students. With the proper advisement, the student can complete the first-year course requirements at SFCC and transfer to the UNM School of Architecture and Planning as a second-year student.

DIRECT EMPLOYMENT

For students seeking employment directly from SFCC we offer courses designed to provide the technical skills required for entry-level technician positions in the architecture profession. These courses include Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) courses utilizing several different popular CAD programs, construction detailing courses, hand drafting courses and graphic design communication courses. Students completing these courses are well prepared to enter the field as technicians.
