Staff Appreciation
Staff Senate will be hosting a Staff Appreciation event 10 a.m., Friday, June 2 in the Campus Center (or, if the weather permits, the Courtyard) to recognize the ongoing efforts and contributions made by staff members. Staff members are an integral part of the successes at SFCC and we want to celebrate you! Please plan on attending this event. There will be light snacks and refreshments served.
Election Results
Staff Senate’s bi-annual election was conducted last month to vote on new two-year terms for Co-Chair and Secretary/Treasurer positions. Nominees were: Jill Carlson, Co-Chair and Linda Peña, Secretary/Treasurer. Both nominated candidates ran unopposed and were unanimously voted into their respective offices by all members present at our last meeting.
Our new officers officially assume office and undertake their duties at the first meeting in August. They both are well qualified for their positions and are committed to carrying Staff Senate’s efforts forward. Congratulations to Jill and Linda!
SFCC Financial Emergency
Money-saving and revenue-generating ideas collected from Staff Senate members were submitted to the governance council to address SFCC’s financial emergency resulting from the state budget shortfall. Several ideas, such as charging for transcripts, a repeated coursework fee and modifying the refund policy based on weeks leading up to census were ideas considered for implementation.
Staff Senate drafted and passed a Resolution recognizing the college’s financial challenges, that difficult decisions may be made that affect the college community, that Staff Senate desires to work toward shared solutions for the challenges faced and will continue to contribute ideas and provide unified support for SFCC’s students, colleagues, and community.
