SFPS and SFCC Partnership to Provide Placement Testing and FAFSA Assistance to SFPS Students

Santa Fe Public Schools (SFPS) and the Santa Fe Community College (SFCC) are partnering for two days of college entrance and application support activities for students at Santa Fe High School, May 14, and Capital High School, May 15. These activities include college placement testing, lunch provided by SFCC, and individual assistance to students to help them complete the Free Application For Student Aid (FAFSA).

As of this month, 75% of CHS seniors have completed the FAFSA. Upon hosting this day, SFCC and CHS aim to have as many as 100% of seniors ready to apply to college and to be ready to see if they qualify for financial aid.

This event aims to remove the daunting and complicated steps involved in applying for federal aid or college entrance.

Dr. Garcia stated, “With the help of our friends at the Santa Fe Community College we can make sure our students don’t fall through the cracks. Together, we can expose our students to new opportunities and provide the assistance needed to help them realize their full potential. I thank the Santa Fe Community College for providing our students this valuable service.”

The media is welcome to join us for the event at Capital High on May 15th:

  • 9:00 – 11:30 Placement testing in computer lab
  • 12:00 – 12:30 SFCC Provides lunch for participating students
  • 12:30 – 3:30 SFCC Provides FAFSA Support to CHS students in library or computer lab

“Some high school students and their families still don’t think college is within their reach,” said SFCC President Dr. Cecilia Cervantes. “The process of applying for financial aid and taking placement tests can create barriers. By collaborating with SFPS to bring placement testing and financial aid support to high school campuses, we hope to encourage all high school students that higher education is a realistic and accessible option after high school.”
