Free Despierta series among the many offerings
Santa Fe Community College announces the SFCC Fall Continuing Education Schedule is now available online. Visit https://www.sfcc.edu/ce for tips on registering and to view the variety of offerings.
“There’s a terrific mix of classes by many of the CE program’s favorite instructors, as well as many new offerings,” said Kris Swedin, Director of Continuing Education and Contract Training. “The majority of the classes will be offered online. We’ve got classes for kids, as well as adults. As the days get cooler, these classes are a way for community members to stay connected, develop new skills and have fun.”
Classes for Kids
Are your kids looking for a way to keep creative and learn about the latest in technology? This fall SFCC Continuing Education continues its partnership with Black Rocket to offer online Sciences, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics camps for youth from 8 to 14 years old. The camps provide immersive activities guided by live, online instructors. A moderated Virtual Room for kids to engage with the instructor and interact with other participants is also provided.
The camps run Mondays/Wednesdays, Tuesdays/Thursdays, and Saturdays throughout the fall. Classes run for several weeks and explore such topics as computer coding, YouTube content creation, Roblox Makers and Mine Craft Redstone Engineering. A variety of camps with morning and afternoon options are available. Camp fees are $159 or $169, depending on when the camp meets. For more information visit https://www.sfcc.edu/kids/.
Classes for Adults
Whether you’re looking for professional development opportunities or want to explore your creativity, learn a new language or take a short-term online health or fitness class you’ll find lots of options in the Fall Continuing Education Schedule. Among the many language classes offered, CE will offer Sanskrit and Hindi classes this fall. There are some in-person classes being offered, such as golf classes, as well as some art and writing classes. Strict COVID-19 safety protocols will be followed.
Enjoy learning about the history of our region by exploring Chaco Canyon Stories taught by William Neuwirth, a biologist and naturalist, or about the Railroad History of New Mexico and the how railroads were influenced by manifest destiny, world wars, the Harvey Era and economic disasters over more than 100 years. Fred Friedman, instructor, has more than 30 years of experience working for the New Mexico Railroad Bureau and has a passion for railroad stories.
Free Despierta Series Allows You to Explore
Not sure what classes would be right for you or want to learn more about the various classes? Join Live Local Online Despierta learning conversations on Wednesday mornings at 9 am. Enjoy a cup of your favorite morning beverage as you learn from home. Free to everyone. Just register online and SFCC’s CE department will connect you with instructors and community guests hosted by Continuing Education staff. You will receive a Zoom meeting notice before the conversations begin. Connections are more important now than ever. If you have questions, call the CE staff at 505-428-1676.
