Meet an SFCC Accounting graduate

Posted in: , ,

SFCC’s Business Administration program offers opportunities to earn certificates and/or an associate degree.  The program helps get graduates quickly into jobs.  The Associate in Arts also helps graduates easily transfer into a four-year institution.

Lucy Felt shares her story:

Lucy Felt, AA in Accounting

“I decided to enroll in SFCC to explore their business program. I graduated in the 2020 with an  Associate in Arts in accounting. I took classes in Macroeconomics Principles, Intermediate Accounting, Public Speaking and Computerized Accounting, which guided students through the QuickBooks software. That is what has helped me the most in my job as a Financial Specialist at the nonprofit New Mexico Coalition to End Homelessness (NMCEH).

“Now, I work as the Continuum of Care Administration Specialist at NMCEH. The Continuum of Care is a way to build a network of agencies and keep them connected as they participate in different programs and projects. Recently, we helped coordinate a survey of people who are unsheltered to gather data on the current population experiencing homelessness and what resources and services are needed in different areas of New Mexico. This data gets submitted to HUD (US. Department of Housing and Urban Development), and it is very interesting to analyze, especially in these times.

“Now I’m working on my Bachelor of Business Administration degree at Highlands University. It’s fantastic that SFCC and Highlands have a transfer program that waives requirements, so students are encouraged to earn the two-year degree at SFCC and then transfer to Highlands. It’s wonderful how SFCC has helped me and helped other people discover and qualify for job prospects.”
