The English and Creative Writing program, in partnership with PILAS, offers paid internships for our students each semester. Students may apply to intern with the Santa Fe Reporter, the Santa Fe Writers Project, and Southwest Contemporary Magazine. These internships enable students to obtain professional experience in the fields of journalism, writing, editing, marketing, and more. Internships last 14 weeks, with a workload of between 10-20 hours per week. Interns are paid $15 per hour. We offering remote (online) and in-person internships.
When you complete a semester-long internship, you also earn three credits (as ENGL 1998) towards your Creative Writing degree or certificate.
You must be 18 or older to apply, and you need to be declared in a degree or certificate program here at SFCC. The application deadline is December 15 (for Spring internships) and May 15 (for Fall internships). Internships are first come, first serve.
To apply: Students complete a simple application and write a short application essay (application and essay guidelines available for download here), and submit it to Marlene Simon, SFCC’s internship coordinator, by emailing marlene.simon@sfcc.edu. Once we receive your application, we will work to pair you with an internship partner that meets your learning needs and aligns with your career goals. You’ll also be matched with an SFCC faculty member, who will serve as your mentor to ensure you’re staying on track where your internship is concerned.
