Santa Fe Higher Education Center to hold a shooter-on-campus drill the morning of Nov. 20

College will collaborate with county emergency response agencies for training

Santa Fe Community College announces that the Santa Fe Higher Education Center (1950 Siringo Rd) will hold a shooter-on-campus drill from approximately 9 to 10 a.m. on Nov. 20, 2019.  The HEC community will participate in a campus wide shooter-on-campus drill. The drill will be a coordinated effort among students, faculty and staff in partnership with county and city emergency response agencies.

Neighbors and passersby of the Santa Fe Higher Education Center, located at 1950 Siringo Rd., may observe participating emergency response vehicles on site. Campus disruptions will primarily occur during the span of the exercise – 9 to 10 a.m. Wraparound preparations will take place from 8 to 9 a.m., with completion tasks scheduled between 10 to 11 a.m.

Santa Fe HEC’s goals for the drill are to:

  1. Provide realistic training to the campus community to better manage an emergency and an active shooter event.
  2. Empower the campus community to protect themselves by providing best practice training.
  3. Develop better communication and collaboration with law enforcement and medical responders.

The drill will be a coordinated training between agencies involved with the HEC in the case of an active shooter incident. Participating agencies include the County Sheriff and County Emergency Management.

The Campus-Community Emergency Response Team (C-Cert) will monitor and provide direction in the hallways. They will be wearing vests to identify themselves and be there to let people know that this is a drill.
