Add a bright spot to your day! Welding Program students are teaming up with the Culinary Arts Program students on Mon., April 4 and Tues., April 5, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to raise funds to attend the Competition Skills USA event in Albuquerque on April 7-8. Welding students will sell lamps for $10 from repurposed number 10 containers from the cafeteria and East Wing Eatery. Just add a candle or solar light and they’re good to go. These will be a fun addition to your yard this summer. Also, for a donation, a welding student will take an order to create your name in metal. Culinary arts students are also collecting funds at the East Wing Eatery. The culinary students will offer a special pasta bar for $5 on Mon., April 4 and they’ll have a sushi bar on Tues., April 5 for $5.
Santa Fe Community College Foundation has committed to matching the amount raised by the student teams. It’s been years since the college has had a team at the Competition Skills USA event. Let’s support and cheer on these students. Jouseth Velazquez, Eric Varela, Corey Muniz, Sam Schulak and Marshal Lee Sanders are on the welding team. They will develop a blueprint and weld a birdhouse in a timed competition. Welding student Paul Quintana will compete in the sculpture competition. Culinary Arts students include: Kyle Pacheco, Erica Lichin and Brian Fox. They will need to butcher both a chicken and salmon and then prepare specialty dishes in their timed competition. Go Team SFCC!
