Phi Theta Kappa News

On March 3, a group from Phi Theta Kappa attended the regional spring convention at UNM Valencia. President Colin Maez, secretary Jenna Rivera, and alumni member Judy Towers went with Emeritus Adviser Jane Abbott to the all day meeting. Various awards, workshops, and 2018 regional officer elections were addressed.

The Alpha Kappa Xi chapter received a number of awards, the most notable for being the only Four Star chapter in the region. This honor is given to chapters that participate in multiple ways in the Phi Theta Kappa programming. The chapter also received the following honors:
• Rising Star Award in recognition of demonstrating excellence and by making a difference in regional programs
• Spirit Award for recognition of your support and participation in regional programs
• Horizon Award for Dr. Jane Abbott, adviser

The Phi Theta Kappa Induction ceremony will be April 20, in the Board Room, room 223, at 6:00 p.m. The public is welcome and invited. The speaker will be Nan Keegan of Student Accessibility Services.

President Colin Maez, a dual credit student, recently was awarded a $5,000 scholarship to cover a period of four years for his college study by the LANL Foundation. Congratulations, Colin!
