CHESS selects Workday to transform student experience, operations
From the August 26 press release: Many students face an uphill battle when considering or attending college. From figuring out registration, placement and advising to managing course scheduling, degree completion and transfer, colleges have not made it easy. The Collaborative for Higher Education Shared Services, or CHESS, has a vision to transform the student experience and modernize operations. For the first time in our nation, five independent community colleges have voluntarily come together to launch an Enterprise Resource Planning platform (ERP) capitalizing on the power of shared resources and decision-making.
CHESS has selected Workday, Inc. to provide solutions that will help realize the group’s vision. Workday’s suite of applications, which includes financial management, human capital management, and student services, will assist CHESS colleges to quickly respond to change while critical business operations continue to run smoothly and securely. The enterprise technology solution is strategically designed so that students can use an intuitive system that restructures outdated administrative functions. Choosing Workday is a major step forward in making this innovative dream a reality. Implementation will begin this fall. CHESS is structured so that additional colleges from any U.S. location have the ability to join and take advantage of increased opportunities for students, shared resources, and improved administrative efficiencies

Sahaj Khalsa gave national keynote and workshop emphasizing equity and inclusion
Sahaj Khalsa, the program director of the Emergency Services Medical Institute at SFCC, recently returned from Florida, where he attended and presented at the National Association of EMS Educators (NAEMSE) Symposium. Sahaj Khalsa is a Board member of NAEMSE and has long led efforts within that organization to increase diversity, equity and inclusion in EMS education programs. He was the primary author of a NAEMSE position paper advocating that more be done to increase equity and inclusion in EMS. He also helped author one of the first research manuscripts examining disparities in pain management in EMS care of prehospital patients.
At the conference, Sahaj facilitated a workshop, ‘The Cultural Humility Summit,’ to discuss equity and inclusion in EMS. Multiple national EMS leadership organizations participated in the workshop, as did the federal agency National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), that federal agency that oversees EMS in the U.S. He also delivered a keynote presentation, ‘Educating Culturally Competent EMS Providers,’ on how we can better educate culturally aware and engaged EMS providers. NHTSA asked NAEMSE to continue collaborating with other national stakeholder organizations in causing change in the profession. The SFCC EMSI looks forward to being at the forefront of these conversations and pushing for positive change in our profession.
