Art opening on Oct. 6 a success, exhibition continues
SFCC’s Visual Arts Gallery hosted a successful opening on October 6.
SFCC’s School of Arts, Design and Media Arts Faculty and Staff Exhibition continues through January 13.
Attendees at the opening enjoyed viewing the exhibit and drifted outside for a reception.
Director of Art on Campus Linda Cassel said, “This exhibition showcases a good cross-section of the tremendous artwork produced by SFCC’s Arts, Design and Media Arts talented faculty and staff. It’s really a terrific selection of artwork ranging from incredible woodworking furniture pieces to digital art. This show gives people an opportunity to see the types of art taught at the college.”
You’re encouraged to stop by from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday thru Friday when the campus is open. Also invite your friends and prospective art students to stop by. The public is welcome to visit but must wear a mask while on SFCC’s campus.

Graduation ceremony for EPA Environmental Technician Training program at 10 a.m. Thursday at HEC
SFCC will host a completion ceremony for successful participants in the EPA Environmental Technician Training Program from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday, October 21 in the lobby of the Santa Fe Higher Education Center, 1950 Siringo Road.
The ceremony will celebrate the accomplishments of thirteen graduates who participated in a five-week EPA grant-sponsored training to become job-ready.
Janet Kerley led the instruction for participants who upon completion of the requirements were eligible for the following certifications:
- General Hazardous Waste Site Worker (HAZWOPER)
- Forklift Operator
OSHA Construction Standards - Confined Space Entry and Non-Entry Rescue
- Solid Waste Management
- Hazardous Waste Management (RCRA)
- Phase I and Phase II Environmental Assessments
- Environmental Sampling
DOT HazMat

As required by the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act), SFCC is providing you with the comprehensive Annual Security Report (ASR) that contains information related to law enforcement authority and practices of campus police and security forces, incident reporting procedures for students and employees, and policies that have been used in preparing this report. In addition, information about how the campus community is notified regarding immediate threats, emergency response and evaluation procedures, campus crime statistics is included, as well as information about campus and community resources available to the campus community and important safety tips. Sewer line repairs begin today
Facilities and Operations start sewer line repairs at the SFCC main campus beginning Monday, October 18.
Repairs will be taking place in room 131 Continuing Education, and 415 Culinary Arts. Surrounding areas may hear loud noises coming from these rooms during the time of this project.

CEA delivers fresh greens to Campus Cupboard
Richard C. “Charlie” Shultz, Lead Faculty for Controlled Environment Agriculture, delivered fresh lettuce from the SFCC greenhouse on Wednesday, Oct. 6 to the Campus Cupboard Food Pantry. He will continue to make more fresh produce deliveries on Wednesday afternoons. In the future, he hopes to have some tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers and other produce.
Campus Cupboard Food Pantry Coordinator Ed Worden said the Campus Cupboard is open from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. He added, “I do arrange for alternate time/day pick up for one or two students per week, typically leaving a prepacked box in the nearby TRIO office, or similar, if I’m unable to be here and let the student in to shop. This is something we recently started but I expect it to become more popular.”

SFCC and WMNU partner to help student complete, and ease transfer

SFCC President Rowley said, “This is a big win for our students who will not only be able to transfer to Western New Mexico University, but also be able to get transfer advice from WNMU representatives while studying at SFCC to make the transition so much easier.” WNMU President Shepard added, “We are proud to be working toward ensuring Santa Fe Community College graduates a shot at advancing their education and training through completing four-year degrees at WNMU, where we will count every credit they earned as part of their associate degrees.”

Kids Campus at SFCC has a few openings available for our FREE Early Program! All children must have reached their third (3rd) birthday before September 1, 2021.
Kids Campus free Early Pre-K hours are Monday-Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Fridays from 8:30-11:30 am.
We also offer a wraparound program, which includes one extra hour in the morning (7:30-8:30 a.m.) and one extra hour in the afternoon (2-3 p.m) for a monthly fee of $350. We do not offer after-care on Fridays.

HSE/GED - Fall 2021 Second Session – New Student Orientation Oct. 14
High School Equivalency/GED – Fall 2021 – Session 2 begins Oct. 25. New Student Orientation and Registration Oct. 14.
The second fall session of High School Equivalency/GED training will begin on October 25. The program offers students online-based instruction in the four areas required for HSE exams – math, reading and writing, social studies and science. New Student Orientation the second fall session is October 14-21. New students, or students who have not attended the ACE program since the Summer of 2020, are required to attend all four days of new student orientation plus a 30-minute advising session, before

Interested in adobe construction? Check out October classes
Kurt Gardella reports that interest in the adobe construction program continues. He had an enthusiastic response for his first fall class. He notes two more classes in the adobe construction program will be offered in October. You can register now to save a place.
ADOB 112, Adobe Wall Construction (CRN 20050) class begins October 18 and will be a blended (online and in-person) class. The class will meet on campus October 30, October 31, November 20 and November 21. Adobe contractor Ernest Aragon will lead the hands-on instruction.
ADOB 113, The Passive Solar Adobe Design class (CRN 20051) begins October 18 and is an online asynchronous class.

CHESS selects Workday to transform student experience, operations
From the August 26 press release: Many students face an uphill battle when considering or attending college. Online Parent Support Group begins Nov. 2
Jocelyn Hernandez Monsalvo, SFCC Student Resource Coordinator, and Rosalie Lipfert, SFCC Counselor, are offering an online Parent Support Group for SFCC student parents.
The group will meet on Zoom for one hour at 10 a.m. Tuesdays beginning November 2 until the end of the semester. Discussion topics will include navigating resources, focusing and study strategies, asking for help, setting boundaries, establishing a support system, and envisioning the future after SFCC. The group is free, confidential, and not part of your student record.
The meeting days are November 2, 9, 16, 23, & 30.

Openings for Student Employment at SFCC
Student work study is a financial aid need-based program that provides student funds earned through part-time employment currently paying at a rate of $12.32 per hour.
Eligible students can work up to 20 hours per week. In addition to helping you pay for your education, the work study program helps you gain work experience, develop your skills, and build a possible pathway to future employment opportunities.
To be eligible, students must meet the following requirements:
- Must complete the 2021-2022 FAFSA and any additional requested verification items
- Must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 degree-related credit hours for fall.
- Must be making Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP)

“The lottery scholarship program wasn’t the only good news for college students. The New Mexico Opportunity Scholarship, which benefits students who are not eligible for the lottery scholarship, such as returning adult learners and students who attend college part time, received an increase of $11 million for next year.
And the state has received $104 million in federal funds through the American Rescue Plan Act for student relief grants, Rodriguez said.

Gerard Martínez y Valencia producer of "A Song For Ruth" mini-doc
Gerard Martínez y Valencia is a producer of a mini-documentary film project that follows the creative process of a musical composition titled “Remembering Ruth Bader Ginsburg” by distinguished American composer Ellen Taaffe Zwilich. The Dallas Symphony performed the world premiere of “Remembering Ruth Bader Ginsburg” on October 7, 2021.
Employees: Watch email for required Multi-Factor Authentication instructions
The Multi-factor Authentication (MFA) implementation project will roll out soon. Keep an eye out for an SFCC email and information in SFCC Connect for steps on how you will set up your MFA by November 12. Employees will be required to participate for Outlook 365 and VPN. The new system, which will add an identification code in addition to your password, will enhance safety and security for employees and SFCC information.
At this time, the MFA project is only for employees, some contractors and student employees.

Janelle Johnson shares insight on shifting job market with a high school student writer
The September 24 Santa Fe New Mexican article In shifting job market, teens face increasing demand for diverse skill sets SFCC Senior Counselor Janelle Johnson provides insight based on her many years of experience counseling students at the college. The article was published in the Generation Next section of the paper and was written by Emma Meyers, a junior at Santa Fe Prep. Janelle says it was fun to be interviewed by a student reporter.

Facilities requests are streamlined with single sign-on
Facilities and Operations, and OIT are happy to announce the facilities and operation single sign-on solution for submitting work tickets. Users no longer need to keep a separate user name and password for the facilities ticketing system.
Once logged into MySFCC, you can now simply click on the facilities and operations ticketing system icon, and the system will take you directly to place a ticket.

In a recent email, President Rowley provided instructions for changing your email signature to use the new SFCC Equity logo (and link it to the sfcc.edu/equity page). The professional development funding committee is accepting applications for professional development funding.
If you are interested, please log into the committee team site on SFCCConnect Intranet, and click “Documents” on the left menu to access the application materials. All applications materials are on the intranet (SFCC Connect), so you must be logged in via VPN or on campus to access them.
Fill out the pdf application, and submit your requests directly to Luis Olivas, Jim Wysong, or pdfund@sfcc.edu.
The committee meets the last Friday of every month, so please submit funding requests in a timely manner.

• If you do contract COVID-19, seek medical attention immediately. Notify your supervisor and human resources. These cases need to reported, SFCC is here to support you.
