Magdalena, NM
Your land is a tapestry of ribbon
and rattlesnakes, sky stitched
above it like an untouched stream.
Mornings, I collect eggs from your basin,
my fingers powdery and warm all day.
It’s impossible not to see the shape of a woman
in a mountain range, here a mound of breast,
there an aching for rivers long dead.
Take a walk today and checkout the poetry posts on the SFCC Campus. Use this map to find them.

October WOW - Teresa Roybal
The WOW Award for the month of October 2021
Teresa Roybal, nominated by Toni Coffman.
“I am nominating Teresa Roybal for her outstanding work that she has done recently for the adjunct faculty. The system she put in place in August for adjunct contract signing was flawless. She sent out clear instruction as to the process and sent out notification
during each step. This was a tremendous effort considering the amount of adjunct faculty and multiple contracts that are signed. In addition she recently aided the Faculty Senate Adjunct Representatives by preparing a spreadsheet of adjunct faculty members and their email address so that we could update the adjunct faculty email list that was outdated. This was quite a task and one that we greatly appreciated and allowed OIT to do the update. She is always going out of her way to go the extra mile.”

SFCC alumna witnessed NASA lift-off
In October, SFCC alumna Sara Lanctot, attended her first space craft launch at the Kennedy Space Center for the “Lucy Launch.” Sara, who graduated from SFCC in 2020 with A.S. in Engineering, now attends New Mexico Tech full-time and is also taking a class at SFCC this semester.
Sara was thrilled to be at the launch. She said, “This trip was actually thanks to NASA’s L’SPACE Academy, which is a NASA workshop series that helps students to get some experience with Space projects, hosted by Arizona State University. The launch was for the Lucy Launch (spacecraft that will conduct research on the Trojan asteroid belt).
“I am currently at LANL (as a student) with the Space group doing R & D for space missions and got to send my first instrument to space (a beginning-to-end project this last summer) and during the Spring semester I was with NASA Armstrong Flight Research Center in their logistics department.”
Congratulations Sara for your many accomplishments! Thank you to Ed Worden for sharing the photo and news.
