Ethyl makes Guinness World Record Book!

Last week Monterey Bay Aquarium sent out a Tweet celebrating the fact that Ethyl, the life-size whale sculpture, now on our campus has made the Guinness World Record Book. Ethyl is now the largest, documented sculpture bringing attention to “educate people about ocean pollution.” The sculpture is on loan to the college through the efforts of Meow Wolf and the Santa Fe Community College Foundation.

SFCC to offer new Certificate in Advanced Dental Assisting Skills beginning Fall 2019

SFCC will begin offering a new Certificate in Advanced Dental Assisting Skills in Fall 2019.

The lectures will be online with a lab on the weekend. Who can attend the 10-credit hour certificate program?
Any dental assistant or other dental auxiliary including dental hygienists, and pre-dental students can enroll. Students applying to this program must be accepted into the Department of Dental Health. At least 1 year experience in dentistry is required for those who have onsite training and no formal college education.

By attending the WIO sessions, the applicant may get information on a free tuition option.

This year’s Chaîne des Rôtisseurs dinner is from 5:30 to 9:30, Thursday, June 20 in the Jemez Rooms.

ESL Summer Classes, Orientations May 29

SFCC will offer an intensive 4-week English as a Second Language session June 3 to June 27 to any adult who wants to learn English. New students must attend an orientation session prior to registration.

All of the orientation and registration sessions take place in the Adult Education Office.

LANL Foundation Career Pathways Scholarship Deadline is May 31

Previously known as the Regional College / Returning Student (RCRS) Scholarship, Career Pathways will continue to provide $1500 awards for two-year degrees, certifications and trades but now no longer requires applicants to have a gap in formal education. The scholarship is renewable for up to two years and a total of $3,000 with no need to reapply—as long as recipients remain in good academic standing and are making progress towards completion.

As with all LANL Foundation scholarships, students must be a resident of the Northern New Mexico seven-county area that includes Los Alamos, Mora, Rio Arriba, San Miguel, Sandoval, Santa Fe or Taos. Funding may be applied to any accredited post-secondary educational institution, in or out of state.

Applications are currently being accepted online. The deadline to apply is May 31, 2019.

The SFCC Department of Dental Health is now accepting applications for 2019-2020 academic year.

Certificate in Dental Assisting (3-semester, full-time program)
Certificate in Advanced Dental Assisting Skills (part-time, evening and online available)
AAS in Dental Health (5-semester, full-time program)
Certificate in Expanded Functions Dental Auxiliary (EFDA) (2-semester program with online and weekends available)

Employee Announcements

SFCC and Faculty Reach Collective Bargaining Agreement

Santa Fe Community College and the faculty union, known as SFCC-AAUP (American Association of University Professors), have come to an agreement on collective bargaining. SFCC-AAUP members ratified the contract in a mid-May vote and members of the SFCC Governing Board approved the agreement during a May 22 meeting.

“This is a positive outcome for the college and its labor relations negotiation process,” said Linda Siegle, chair of the SFCC Governing Board. “I’m grateful to the members of the college who dedicated time and effort toward reaching this agreement in good faith. The college looks forward to continuing to serve our students and community with high-quality higher education.”
