Environmental Job Training Program Info Session, July 19

SFCC will present an information session on the New Mexico Environmental Job Training Program at 6 p.m., Thurs., July 19 in Room 212.

The five-week intensive training will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays Sept. 10 through Oct. 12 at the college. An Environmental Protection Agency grant will cover the training costs for unemployed, underemployed or low-income applicants who are accepted into the program.

SFCC graduates first from algal certificate program

The U.S. Department of Energy’s Bioenergy Technologies Office (BETO)-funded Algae Technology Educational Consortium (ATEC) is proud to announce its first graduates from the algal certificate program at Santa Fe Community College in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

SFCC is once again supporting Santa Fe’s Pancakes on the Plaza July 4. If you’re interested in volunteering, please visit the volunteer site for info and to sign up.

Grantsmanship Course July 23-27, registration still open

CE will host a Grantsmanship Training Program July 23-27. The intensive, five-day, hands-on workshop for nonprofit and government grantseekers will guide participants step by step through all stages of planning programs, researching funding sources and writing proposals. SFCC students can register for American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP) Photo Week workshops for free.

Tues., July 17: Michael Clark: Staying Relevant in the Current Economy from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in Room 488.
Sat., July 21: Luke Copping: Estimate Workshop, A Hands-on Approach to Bidding from 10 a.m. to noon in Room 488.

Lottery Scholarship increased for 2018-19

The Lottery award for 2018-2019 is more than expected! Based on changes that the Legislature voted on this past year the projected amount for the Lottery scholarship for Community colleges was $380 per semester. Based on enrollment projections from the NM Higher Education Department the budget was able to allow Lottery awards of $581 per semester for students attending community colleges.

SMILES club attends Dental Conference

SFCC’s S.M.I.L.E.S. (Student’s Majoring In Lovely Everlasting Smiles) Club attended New Mexico Dental Association (NMDA)’s 109th annual session at the Albuquerque Convention Center earlier this month. June 6-9. It was a great learning experience for the students under the mentorship of their faculty, Dr. Aamna Nayyar, Karla Martinez-Talavera and Jessica Jaquez.

Thank you to the Office of Student Development (OSD) for supporting the club with T-shirts and meals. Thank you to SFCC’s Professional Development Task Force for sponsoring the conference registration for Dr. Aamna Nayyar and Karla Martinez-Vigil. Veterans Scholarship

The City of Santa Fe Veterans’ Advisory Board and the SFCC Foundation provide the SFCC Scholarship for Veterans and Dependents.

The application for the 2018-2019 is currently available on the SFCC Financial Aid webpage. Applications are still being accepted.

Respiratory Care

Applications for the Respiratory Care 2018 cohort are open now and will be accepted on a first come first served basis until the Fall 2018 Cohort is full.

Paramedic program accepting application through July 31

Santa Fe Community College’s Emergency Medical Services Institute is accepting Paramedic Training Program applications through July 31 for the year-long certificate program that starts October 15. Get all the details.

Dental Program accepting applications for fall 2018

SFCC’s Dental Department is accepting applications now for earning a Certificate in Dental Assisting, an Associate degree in Dental Health and/or a Certificate in Expanded Function Dental Auxiliary (EFDA) applications for fall 2018.

Have fun, join the walking group!

Want to enjoy some exercise outdoors and take in the scenic vistas around campus? Fitness Academic Director Ute Jannsen-Kerr leads a walking group at 7:30 a.m. Wednesdays. The group is open to all employees. They meet in front of the Witter Fitness Education Center.

Contact Ute via email to join the walking group list. Ute keeps the walkers updated by email with any time or day changes.
