Grantsmanship Training Program, Aug. 5-9

SFCC’s Continuing Education Department and Georgia O’Keeffe Museum will co-host a Grantsmanship Training Program Aug. 5-9 on SFCC’s campus. The intensive, five-day, hands-on workshop for nonprofit and government grantseekers will guide participants step by step through all stages of planning programs, researching funding sources and writing proposals.

Chaîne des Rôtisseurs Dinner, June 20

This year’s Chaîne des Rôtisseurs dinner is from 5:30 to 9:30, Thursday, June 20 in the Jemez Rooms.

Enjoy a uniquely crafted gourmet celebration while you support education and inspiring Santa Fe’s culinary community. Proceeds benefit Cooking with Kids and Santa Fe Community College Foundation’s Chaîne des Rôtisseurs Culinary Arts Endowed Scholarship.

Massai Beading Class, July 9

SFCC’s Continuing Education Department will offer a Maasai beading class presented by International Folk Artist Phoebe Lasoi from 2 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, July 9.

During the workshop, Lasoi will present a short talk on the important role of beading in Maasai culture, followed by a beading workshop in which participants will make a beaded leather medallion that may be attached to a necklace (provided for purchase) or worn as is. Cost for the class is $49.00 plus a materials fee of $15.00. To participate or for more information, please contact the Santa Fe Continuing Education Department 505-428-1676.

Student Spotlight

EPA Graduation, June 21 at Northern New Mexico College

SFCC and Northern New Mexico College invite you to join us as we celebrate the EPA Environmental Technician Training Graduation on Friday, June 21, 2019 at 10 a.m. in the Center for the Arts at Northern New Mexico College, 921 Paseo De Onate Street, Espanola. A short reception with light refreshments will follow.

This collaboration between SFCC, Northern New Mexico College and the Environmental Protection Agency offers free training to New Mexico residents. Graduates of the program will receive federal and state recognized certifications such as: Hazardous Waste and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER), 40 hour; CPR and first aid; fork lift operator, and OSHA Construction Standards, 30 hour.

Paramedic program accepting applications through July 31

SFCC’s Emergency Medical Services Institute is accepting Paramedic Training Program applications now until 5 p.m. July 31 for the certificate program that starts October 14 and runs through December 2020.

AAS in Dental Health (5-semester, full-time program)
Certificate in Expanded Functions Dental Auxiliary (EFDA) (2-semester program with online and weekends available)

Employee Announcements

Join the trail running group on Tuesdays and walking group on Thursdays

Starting this week, the college will offer to employees a “meet-up” for current and “newbie” trail runners in front of the William C. Fitness Education Center at 7 a.m. every Tuesday. All are welcome.

The Walking Group has moved to Thursdays 7:30-8:30 a.m., also meeting in front of the FEC.

For questions in regards to the trail running, please contact Herman Garcia und questions in regards to the Walking Group should go to Ute Jannsen-Kerr.

Joe Long's photography exhibition opened with festive reception

The exhibition, “My Photographic Life: Photographs by Joe Long,” opened on June 13 with a festive reception. The exhibit will run through July 11 at the Visual Arts Gallery. The 93-year-old photographer shared work that spanned 70 years. He reflects, “My involvement with SFCC now totals twenty years as a photography student, lab monitor, tutor and as a teacher for 11 years.” He is currently co-teaching a class in Night Photography through Continuing Education with his son Michael Long, who also teaches painting through Continuing Education.
