Free Flu Vaccine Clinic, Thursday

SFCC, in partnership with New Mexico Department of Health, is offering a free Flu Vaccine Clinic for anyone 6 months old or older on Thursday, Jan. 24 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (or while supplies last) in the Jemez Rooms. Anyone younger than 18 years old needs a parent’s signature. Flu season is here and it is not too late to get vaccinated. Call 505-428-1837 for information.

Santa Fe Trails to Expand Services

Responding to requests from students and staff at the Santa Fe Community College, the Transit Division is expanding its Route 22 services between the NM599 Rail Runner Station and the College.

NEW Testing Center Hours

Effective January 22, the SFCC Testing Center’s hours of operation will be Mondays and Tuesdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Wednesdays through Fridays 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Awesome Foundation Santa Fe accepting grant applications

The Santa Fe chapter of the Awesome Foundation is accepting applications for a $1,000 micro-grant that will be awarded to invest in a local project that aims to make Santa Fe a better place to live, work and play. Applications are due by Friday, Feb. 1, with the grant to be awarded in March. There are no pre-requisites and all are welcome to apply.

Queerly Community: Weekly Gender & Sexuality Meet-up and Discussion Group at 11 a.m. Thursdays

Queerly Community is SFCC’s new weekly gender & sexuality meet-up and discussion group. The group meets from 11 a.m. to noon on Thursdays beginning on Jan. 24 in Room 574-A (with the exception of Feb. 7 when the group will meet in the East Wing Eatery). Come kick it and get to know and build community! All are welcome.

Canvas Orientation for Students

Canvas is the learning management system used to deliver all online, blended and web-enhanced courses at SFCC. Students can receive course updates and reminders, where and when they want – by email, text messaging, and even Facebook.

Student Bus Passes available at Bookstore

Reduced rate Santa Fe Trail bus passes are available for purchase at the SFCC Bookstore for $17 (30-day) or $60 (120-day). SFCC photo ID required. Financial aid funds can be used to purchase passes.

Media Arts Students: Submit your Work.

SFCC’s Media Arts department and Visual Arts Gallery are proud to introduce the first ever MART Student Showcase to be on view March 7 through April 12. This is an exciting opportunity for students to show off their artwork.

Applications are available for pick up in Room 605. The deadline to submit your application is Feb. 19.

Two deadlines: Feb. 8

Ready to graduate this spring? The deadline to Petition to Graduate for spring 2019 is Friday, Feb. 8. The link to petition to graduate is found on:

¡Viva! - Full-time students sign up now!

¡Viva! Free Fitness for Full-time Students continues this spring. Students registered for 12 credit hours or more will be able to access the William C. Witter Fitness Education Center from 1 to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and all day (6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.) Friday.

To get started, students enrolled in 12 credits hours must sign a liability waiver, available now on MySFCC. Students can check their enrollment status and number of credit hours by checking their class schedule on MySFCC.

If you have questions or need some additional information about your enrollment status, you can call the Welcome and Advising Center at 505-428-1270.

The cost of textbooks can be a significant barrier for students. SFCC Library strives to provide equitable access to required materials by maintaining a collection of Course Reserves available for 2-hour checkout in the Library.

Library staff rely on faculty members to ensure that Course Reserve items are available to our students. Please take a moment to check what materials are on Course Reserve for your classes at the Library:

Governing Board Approves Policies

The SFCC Governing Board has approved the policies listed below that were recently established or revised. Please click on the links to learn about each of these:

The Policy Office has created a new section: Section 10 President and Administration. Please take the time to review the new policy below – much has changed regarding the criteria and the process for providing free or reduced rate use of College property. If you have been in or plan to be in a position to request free or reduced rate for an individual or an entity to use College property, then you must be familiar with this policy and follow its process.

Dr. Nayyar presented in Pakistan

Dr. Aamna Nayyar, Director Dental Department, was recognized for her presentation on “Alternative Dental Practices” on Jan. 9 at a CE Seminar hosted by Dr. Essa Laboratory and Diagnostic, in Karachi, Pakistan.

Wellness at SFCC

Please consider joining your colleagues in the following activities:

• Mindful Meditation: The Planetarium will be open to students and SFCC employees from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. on Tuesdays. Please observe the following guidelines: no talking, eating, drinks or cell phones.

• Yoga sessions led by Andrew Kerr from noon to 1 p.m. on Wednesdays in the Board Room. If you have yoga mats, please bring them but they’re not necessary. Some will be provided.

• Walking group walks the trails from noon to 1 p.m. Fridays. Meet in front of the William C. Witter Fitness Education Center. Group walks rain or shine.

And finally, need to order business cards or a name tag? Go to the new Intranet, select Departments, select Marketing and Public Relations from the drop down menu and scroll down to MPR Forms and there you will find the Business Cards and Name Badges Request Form.
