Presidential search listening sessions

Share your views on what Santa Fe Community College needs in its next president.

The college is beginning its search for a permanent president.

The public is invited to attend one of the following listening sessions:
September 6: noon to 1 p.m. | 4 to 5 p.m. | 7 to 8 p.m.
September 7: 11 a.m. to noon | 1 to 2 p.m.

Mental Health First Aid Training, Aug. 17, registration ends today

The next Mental Health First Aid Training will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday, Aug. 17. To learn more visit the event page.

Chocolate and History: SFCC at Spanish Language Night at Midtown Campus

Food trucks and entertainment – including a tango demonstration and SFCC giveaways start at 6 p.m.

7:15 to 7:35 p.m.: Carlos Rovelo, Continuing Education and Adjunct Faculty member will host a presentation and chocolate sampling – Chocolate: History, Culture and Taste.

7:35 to 7:45 p.m.: Dr. Andrew Lovato, City of Santa Fe Historian and SFCC Associate Professor will deliver a talk celebrating the richness of Mexican culture, our neighbor to the south.

SFCC Continuing Education artists will also provide chalk art activities for families.

The screening of Aventurera begins at 8 p.m.

Midtown Campus is accessible from 1600 St. Michael’s Drive or Alumni Drive, opposite Yucca Street and Siringo Road.

Presented by the Santa Fe Arts Commission, Santa Fe Community College and Center for Contemporary Arts.

Contract for a Better Tomorrow Scholarship application deadline extended to Aug. 20

The Contract for a Better Tomorrow Scholarship (CBT) application period has been extended to Monday, Aug. 20!

CBT is a an “Earn as you Learn” scholarship program for first-generation college students who are working at least part-time. Students must be enrolled in at least 9 credit hours required for their degrees.

To qualify, students must:
• complete the 2018-2019 FAFSA or 2018-2019 Dreamers Financial Aid form
• have a cumulative GPA of 2.0
• be a first generation college student (your mother or father may not have earned a Bachelor’s degree to be a first-generation college student)
• be working at least part-time (not limited to ONLY 20 hours per week)
• be enrolled in a minimum of 9 credit hours from your degree
• submit the completed CBT application package including the application form, a personal statement, proof of employment and a signed degree plan from your Academic Adviser

What’s YOUR vision for the Santa Fe Pride Parade and Festival?

Please join and weigh in with other local LGBTQAI2s community members and activists for a facilitated conversation and panel about the future of the Santa Fe Pride Parade and Festival at a Town Hall Discussion on The Future of LGBTQAI2S+ Pride from 6 to 8 p.m. Wed. Aug. 29 at the Santa Fe Higher Education Center, 1950 Siringo Road. Spanish and ASL interpreters will be available.

Fitness newsletter available online

SFCC’s Fitness letter is now available online. In this issue, you can read about high-intensity circuit training with body weight, the health benefits of grass farming, food borne illnesses and more. You’ll also see information on staff changes, cleaning hours and other useful tips.

The SFCC English Department has released a flyer compiling its creative writing offerings for the fall semester. Check out the flyer.

Dental Program accepting applications for fall 2018

SFCC’s Dental Department is accepting applications now for earning a Certificate in Dental Assisting, an Associate degree in Dental Health and/or a Certificate in Expanded Function Dental Auxiliary (EFDA) applications for fall 2018.

The application and qualification criteria for the program can be found online. For more information, contact Dental Department Director Aamna Nayyar, ext. 1258.
