Summer Update on Face Coverings, Vaccine Requirement

Dear SFCC Community,

Thank you for meeting with grace and fortitude our extended, challenging trek through the pandemic. You consistently rose to the occasion to support one another and find creative ways around obstacles. Thank you for your patience, resilience, and dedication.

We are fortunate to be transitioning to a less threatening Covid situation. In addition, thanks to Facilities and Operations staff who have made significant improvements to ventilation and filtration systems, we now have safer learning and common spaces.

Therefore, effective Tuesday, May 17, the SFCC vaccination requirement will no longer be in effect. Additionally, SFCC’s mask mandate will no longer be in effect in most common areas on Main Campus and at the Santa Fe Higher Education Center. (Kids Campus continues to follow its own practices and requirements. They will provide a separate update specific to its children and employees.) There is one important caveat to this announcement: Because classes are conducted in a variety of settings and environments, individual faculty members may make their own determinations on requiring masks in their respective classrooms and labs. Please respect anyone who chooses to wear a mask.

Health experts agree that COVID-19 is not going away any time soon. I strongly encourage the continued use of appropriate face coverings in all indoor settings. Masks can provide additional protection for the user and others. Keep a mask handy or pick up a free mask at most college entrances. Stay up to date with your vaccination boosters. The college will host additional vaccine clinics and we’ll keep you posted when they’re planned. In the meantime, you can schedule your vaccines and boosters online through the New Mexico Department of Health.

I hope you have a great summer.

Sincerely,

Becky Rowley, Ph.D.
