2026 KATIE BESSER STUDENT AWARDS

Please consider entering this school year’s Katie Besser Student Awards for writing and art contest.  Categories include image/photography, fiction, poetry creative non-fiction, academic essay, en español (any genre), and instructor nominated. Especially consider submitting in the often-underrepresented categories of art, academic essay and en español (any genre).

If any of your pieces are chosen, you will receive monetary prizes (i.e. gift cards), you’ll be eligible to win the SFCC Foundation Richard Bradford Memorial Creative Writing Scholarship, your pieces will be published in our annual anthology called Accolades, and you will have the chance to share your work at our celebratory reading at Meow Wolf!

To submit, you must be enrolled in at least 3 credits, written submissions should be no more than 5 typed pages, images/photographs should be submitted as jpgs or pdfs, you can send up to 6 submissions total, and please don’t put your name on the pieces themselves.  Unfortunately, SFCC staff are not eligible.

To enter, email submissions from your student email account to Genevieve Betts (genevieve.betts@sfcc.edu) and include your name, titles & categories of your pieces, your phone number, and your A#.  The deadline is March 1st, so if you’re not planning to submit something right away, please put this date in your calendar.  Happy submitting. 

APRENDE PRE-APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM/ PROGRAMA DE PRE-APRENDIZ

APRENDE Pre-Apprenticeship Program is for people interested in becoming an early childhood assistant teacher who do not have experience in early childhood settings.  Pre-Apprentices gain experience through a 150-hour field experience and earn a Child Development Certificate (CDC) in early childhood education. Pre-Apprentices earn financial incentives for their field experience and early childhood coursework.  All course credits will transfer to continue to the associate degree in early childhood education.  If you have already earned your CDC, you are not qualified for pre-apprenticeship.  After completing the Pre-Apprenticeship Program, you will be qualified to become a teacher assistant in a high-quality early learning setting.  For additional information and to apply to APRENDE: www.sfcc.edu/aprende <http://www.sfcc.edu/aprend

APRENDE es un programa de capacitación de maestros de la primera infancia en Santa Fe Community College a través de la experiencia practica en la enseñanza para obtener certificados y titulas para una carrerea gratificante en la primera infancia.

Programa de Pre-Aprendiz: un pre-aprendiz para personas interesadas en convertirse en asistentes de maestro quien no tienen experiencia en la primera infancia.  Los pre-aprendices adquieren experiencia a través de una experiencia en un aula de la primera infancia y obtiene un Certificado de Desarrollo Infantil (CDC).  Todos los créditos se transferirán al programa de aprendiz APRENDE para continuar con la licenciatura de asociado en la educación temprana.  Si ya ha obtenido su CDC, no esta calificado para el pre-aprendiz.  Después de completar el programa de pre-aprendiz, estará calificado para ser en asistente de maestro en un centro de alta calidad.  For additional information and to apply to ARENDE: www.sfcc.edu/aprende

Check out SFCC’s Career Coach your one stop shop for job postings, resume writing, and career exploration.  You can quickly apply for any job posted in Career Coach.  You can also take a career assessment that identifies our primary areas of strength and provides suggestions for different career paths to explore. 

CHILDCARE- MAKE SURE YOU’RE ON THE KIDS CAMPUS WAITLIST 

Are you in need of childcare?  When a spot becomes available at the Kids Campus, students get priority placement.  Kids campus wants to support student parents and hopes that those needing childcare will get on the waitlist.  Children of degree-seeking SFCC students, SFCC employees, and full-time students at the Higher Education Center are prioritized for placement to support a two-generation philosophy of education at the college.  Visit the Kids Campus website for more information.  Student receive a 10% discount on the cost of Kids Campus and NM Early Childhood Education and Care Development offers Child Care Assistance to income-eligible students. 

SPRING  STUDENT EMPLOYMENT

FREE DIAPERS AVAILABLE THROUGH DIAPER DEPOT AT SFCC EXCHANGE

SFCC students, faculty, staff, and community members can now receive a free monthly supply of diapers and wipes—thanks to a new partnership between the SFCC Exchange and Food Depot’s Diaper Depot.  Sizes range from newborn to size 8.  To participate, enroll at the Campus Cupboard (Room LL305) or if you already have a CC#, email joanna.johnston@sfcc.edu with your information   Please see attached flyer. 

FINANCIAL WELL-BEING AND LITERACY COURSE

Student affairs has launched a Financial Well-being and Literacy course to help our students ensure they are on a path to financial well-being and making good choices about their money and their future. Nusenda and SFCC have a co-branded Financial Wellness website with lots of useful information and tools:  https://santafecc.teachbanzai.com/wellness.  You can access the course by clicking on the “Financial Literacy” button on the Welcome section of the MySFCC homepage.

FREE FOOD AND SNACKS

The Campus Cupboard (Room LL305, lower level of the West Wing) offers free groceries and snacks to the SFCC community.  You can shop for groceries once a week and grab up to two snacks a day.  The Campus Cupboard is open from 8:15 am to 4:45 PM, Monday through Friday when campus is open.  The Exchange also has kitchen items, clothing, and diaper program enrollment.  No student ID is required—just a quick 5-minute enrollment.  Menstrual products are provided by Free Flow New Mexico.  Questions?  Email cupboard@sfcc.edu or call 505-428-1775

FREE MONEY    

1) Are you currently enrolled in this semester and are experiencing some financial challenges?  Have you experienced a recent emergency and need just a little help?  Apply today through the Student Emergency Fund.  The application can be found on your MySFCC page und Resources (Emergency Assistance Fund).  Applications are reviewed frequently, and funds are directly awarded to your account. (The funds cannot cover the cost of tuition or books.)

2)  Did you know that you may be eligible for FREE GRANT MONEY?  Have you completed your Free Application for Federal Student Ais (FASFSA).  If not, it’s easy, apply today at www.fafsa.gov .  Even if you are taking a few classes, you may still be eligible.  Form more information, please contact our financial aid office at 505-428-1268.

  4. Students will not be dropped for non-payment.  If you are currently enrolled, you must pay in full or make payment arrangements with the cashier’s office.  Contact them today at cashiers@sfcc.edu.

LIBRARY SATURDAY HOURS

The Library is now open Saturdays 10-2.  A perfect place for weekend studying, meetings, or quiet time.  Stop by and make the Library part of your Saturday routine!

LIBRARY LOCKERS

SFCC Library now has lockers available for day use! Open to students, staff and faculty.  Keys are available for checkout at the front desk.

MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELING IN PERSON

ON DEMAND STATEMENTS NOW AVAILABLE

SFCC HAS ADDED A NEW FEATURE

You can download a statement of your account at any time you would like.  The statement will include:

  • Amount owing for the term (could also include balances from other terms owing
  • Account Activity for term chosen showing Charges/Credits/Payments
  • Schedule of classes register for
  • Buttons to print or make a payment

Below are instructions on how to view the statement.

  1. Log into your student portal at http://www.my.sfcc.edu/  
  2. Click the Pay Now/1098T button
  3. Enter your SFCC email address
  4. In the Statements box you can click ON Demand Statement
  5. In the drop-down box click on the Term needed

SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION AVAILABLE NOW

Pay for college with scholarships.  One simple application puts you in consideration for State institutional and Foundation private scholarships.  Scholarships are available for new and returning, part time and full-time students to help pay for college for the upcoming academic year.  Scholarships are also available for second generation colleges.  For more information and to apply go tohttps://www.sfcc.edu/offices/financial-aid/  If you have questions or need assistance, email the Financial Aid Office at finaid@sfcc.edu from your SFCC student email account.  Make sure to include your Student ID number in the email.

STATE OF NEW MEXICO INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

The State of New Mexico Internship Program offers paid positions starting at $16.20/hour for high school, undergraduate, and graduate students, as well as recent graduates.  Internships are available year-round during fall, spring, or summer sessions.  Participants can earn a Certification of Work Experience Equivalency, which helps meet qualifications for permanent state positions.  Learn more at https://www.spo.state.nm.us/internships/  or by contacting Luis.Burrola@spo.nm.gov.  See attached flyer for more information. 

STUDENT GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION

If you are interested in promoting your Santa Fe Community College student community, being part of activities and projects that are student related, exceling your leadership skills, promoting awareness of student programs, clubs, and student success, having a positive impact on our campus and working with a great team, we encourage you to apply to be part of SFCC’s Student Government Association.  All applicants must submit one letter of recommendation from a previous or current faculty or staff member.  Members will be selected through a committee review and selected members will have the opportunity to be nominated for an executive position which will be voted on by members

WIN PROJECT

The WIN project employs four Navigators who are actively working to recruit individuals who are unemployed or underemployed or are looking to skill up. Benson is currently assigned to SFCC. WIN Navigators focus is to support low-income individuals, people of color, and people recovering from substance use disorders or those who have been incarcerated to place them into training programs, and connect them with services, resources, employers, and further training to support their success.  Please visit the website with this link https://www.nnm-win.com/community-support
