The 2019 Governor’s Higher Education Summit on September 18 featured Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham as the keynote speaker. Governor Lujan Grisham announced the Opportunity Scholarship – a proposal to help more students of any age attend college tuition free. SFCC President Dr. Becky Rowley served as a panelist. She responded to an audience member question about what the challenges are for first-year students and ways in which we can address them, including providing financial education about loans, grants and scholarships as well as increasing student support services beyond academic counseling.
