Group Fitness Instructor
Santa Fe Community College’s group fitness instructor program prepares graduates to work as fitness trainers in the dynamic field of health and exercise. Earning a Group Fitness Instructor Certificate demonstrates that you know how to safely and effectively plan and teach engaging and enjoyable group fitness classes.
Coursework include hands-on learning as well as theoretical knowledge that helps prepare you to work with individual clients. Topics covered include how to design and lead safe, effective, and purposeful exercise routines, motivational strategies to engage participants, coaching and leadership skills, and the latest instructional techniques.
Successful completion of the program will provide graduates with the fundamental knowledge needed to take the ACE (American Council on Exercise) certification exam.
Group fitness trainers and instructors commonly work in facilities such as recreation centers, health clubs, cruise ships, vacation resorts, residential health centers, and private yoga and exercise studios.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Group Fitness Instructor employment is expected to increase by 14% between 2022-2033, and the median annual wage for fitness trainers and instructors was $46,180.
