About the Program

Custom-tailor a career in the Fashion Design Program. You’ll study fashion illustration, fashion design history, computer-aided design, ethnic design and textiles, pattern making and garment construction. Learn to maximize your creative abilities in a career as an apparel or accessories designer, product designer, stylist, buyer and more.

Students display their creations in fashion shows in town and in the Visual Arts Gallery on campus. A recent SFCC alum debuted her collection at New Mexico Fashion Week. The program offers yearly trips during Fashion Week to the famous Trade Mart in New York City, and the Fashion Design Club organizes other trips to domestic design marts in New York, Dallas and Las Vegas for focused study.

Fashion Design faculty members are practicing fashion and costumer designers, tailors, CAD specialists and product designers. Their currency in the fashion industry allows them to teach state-of-the-art fashion design. The SFCC design studio is a fully equipped, professional, fashion design production house; it is equipped with industrial sewing machines, cutting tables and industry specific dress forms.

SFCC is the only public college in New Mexico to offer a certificate in Fashion Design. With a certificate in fashion design, students may transfer to a 4-year college Many students in the program choose to study fashion and costume design for an entrepreneurial business, the stage and film industry or art/sculptural practice.
