Facilities Management
Our program is designed to teach students the fundamental principles of using sensors and other information to optimize various processes, including programs that covers facilities management, building automation, controls, energy systems, and smart energy grids and microgrids.
SFCC’s Facilities Management program will prepare students for technical jobs in facilities and energy management. Opportunities also include articulation to 4-year engineering programs at universities, and advanced degrees.
Learn more about how you can join the emerging smart energy workforce through the facilities management program and SFCC’s Smart and Microgrid Training Center by exploring the degrees and certificates below.
Fall 2024 Course Offerings
• FACT 1110 – Introduction to Automation
Facilities Management courses can apply to the following degrees and certificates:
- Automation and Controls Technician Certificate
- Distributed Energy Technologies Technician Certificate
- IT Support for Smart Grids and Micro Grids Certificate
- Engineering Technologies AAS
- Controlled Environment Agriculture AAS
Facilities & Equipment
SFCC’s Smart and Microgrid Training Center features several current educational facilities:
- The “Educational Microgrid” is a fully functioning microgrid serving the controlled environment greenhouse on campus, including a small tracking PV array, a battery energy storage system, and controls
- A 1.5 Megawatt fixed PV system serves the campus load
- The campus microgrid will incorporate all energy assets on campus in an islandable microgrid configuration (implementation began early 2023 and is expected to be completed late 2024). The data from the system is being integrated into a state-wide research collaboration with UNM, NMSU, and NM Tech.
