If the world of finance beckons, then a career in accounting could add up to your success. A Santa Fe Community College degree in accounting will prepare the graduate for a bachelor’s degree program and is a good foundation for a career in almost any field. In SFCC’s Accounting Program, you’ll study the principles of macroeconomics and microeconomics as well as payroll accounting and computerized accounting with QuickBooks. The courses in the degree program at Santa Fe Community College are patterned after the lower-division courses at universities so you’ll get the required general education courses, plus some basic accounting classes in financial accounting principles, federal and state income tax preparation, payroll accounting, financial and investment analysis, tax accounting and more.

Learn to think analytically, and excel at organization and problem solving – essential talents to land a job as a public accountant, manager or financial analyst, market researcher, and others. The number of careers in accounting and auditing is expanding. In New Mexico, the field is estimated to grow by 18 percent while nationally the growth is predicted to be 30 percent. Money Magazine has named accounting one of the 50 hottest jobs of the decade. Starting salaries for certified public accountants range from $30,000 to $160,000, while those for graduates with associate degrees in accounting are typically between $18,000 and $40,000.
