Accounting
The two-year degree will pave your way to a bachelor’s degree program and help build a solid foundation for a successful accounting or business career. In addition to required general education courses, modeled after the entry-level courses at other universities, you will take classes in principles of finance and accounting that will provide the tools and knowledge needed to work in business administration and finance.
You’ll learn computerized accounting with QuickBooks, how to prepare and analyze financial statements, and how to expertly apply financial tools and techniques to business decisions. You’ll also study payroll accounting, income tax preparation, the principles of microeconomics and macroeconomics, and many other integral accounting tools. The program seeks to hone your skills in analytical thinking, problem solving and organizational expertise, making you a prime candidate to work for any private, public, or non-profit organization, whether it be a local, independent business, a major international corporation or even your own accounting firm.
Accountants are in demand, both in New Mexico and across the country with the number of accounting jobs estimated to increase by 6.7% in New Mexico, and by 6.9% around the country. Accounting jobs exist in every industry and offer many benefits, including ample room for advancement, stability, the opportunity for travel and a median salary of $60, 672.
