Santa Fe Community College announces the Summer Continuing Education Schedule is now available online. Dean of Continuing Education and Contract Training Kris Swedin said, “Summer is the perfect time to relax with painting, creative writing or jewelry making. You can learn new photographic techniques to capture the beauty of the region’s landscapes and sunsets. You can explore how to attract bees and birds to your backyard. There are also many options for acquiring new professional skills and certifications.”
Learn about healthy, plant-based cooking
Would you like to eat lighter and healthier this summer? Join new online classes offered by health coach Evelyn Herrera. In the plant-based desserts class you will learn how to make plant-based desserts for every occasion. You’ll see demonstrations and learn about the Glycemic Index, alternative sweeteners, fat options, egg replacers, thickeners. Recipes will be provided for yogurt, nice cream, chocolate pudding, bundt cake, granola and no bake cookies. In her other class, Food for Life: Kickstart Your Health, you’ll learn the basics of low-fat, plant-based diets. You’ll get ideas for meal planning and watch simple cooking demonstrations to help you get started.
Explore and learn about the natural world
Learn about New Mexico geology and plants through several course offered. Popular field geologist and instructor Kirk Kempter returns with two new classes that explore New Mexico’s varied terrain. Kempter’s classes Geologic Story of El Malpais National Monument and Geologic Story of Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument will delve into the interesting volcanic history of those monuments. William Neuwirth, a biologist and naturalist, will offer a 7.5-mile hiking excursion to the Valles Caldera East Rim, as well as a wildflower identification. He’ll also offer his popular online class, Chaco Canyon Stories.
Get new language skills
Would you like to expand your foreign language skills? Whether you’d like to brush up before travel or learn how to have in-depth conversations, there’s a wide range of Continuing Education language classes. You’ll find classes to learn Arabic, French, Italian and Spanish.
For in-person classes, strict COVID-19 safety protocols will be followed. Masks are required on campus. Also, participants will need to follow the college’s COVID-19 vaccine requirements.
