Santa Fe Community College announces a Building Trades Open House from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 10, in the Trades & Advanced Technology Center (TATC) on campus, 6401 Richards Avenue.

SFCC students get hands-on experience in building trades classes.

The Building Trades Open House offers a valuable opportunity for individuals to explore SFCC’s new certificate programs, which can pave the way for careers in the home building trades. Geneva “Cookie” Look, academic director of SFCC’s Building and Construction Trades Department, emphasizes the importance of these programs, stating, “There’s never been a better time to earn a credential and enter the trades. The construction and maintenance industry is booming in the region, and employers are constantly reaching out to SFCC for graduates who are equipped with the skills and credentials needed to thrive in the building industry. We actively work with our students to connect them with employers who are ready to hire.”

SFCC’s new certificate programs include:

  • HVAC & Plumbing Certificate: This program equips students with the technical knowledge and hands-on experience needed to work in heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and plumbing systems.
  • Electrical Technician Certificate: Students in this program gain expertise in electrical systems, preparing them for careers in installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of residential and commercial electrical systems.
  • Building and Home Remodel Certificate: This certificate program provides students with the skills necessary for work in construction, renovation, and remodeling, preparing them for a variety of roles in home building and improvement projects.

These programs are designed to meet the growing demand for skilled workers in the region’s thriving building industry.
