SFCC Announces Governing Board Candidates’ Forum

Santa Fe Community College’s Staff and Faculty Senates will present the college’s governing board candidates’ forum from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. Thurs., Jan. 26 for the upcoming Feb. 7 election. The forum is open to the public and will be in Room 216, in the college’s West Wing, 6401 Richards Ave. The Santa Fe Public Schools election also takes place Feb. 7 and includes a bond issue for the school, as well as a board election.

The SFCC Governing Board plays a critical role in setting the course for SFCC’s future. The board, in concert with college’s official shared governance bodies, establishes the policies necessary to effectively carry out the college’s mission to empower students and strengthen community and to advance the best interests of students, faculty, staff and the community. Together, the five-member board is committed to ensuring the college provides accessible, affordable and innovative educational opportunities that serve the needs of the community.

Voters will be asked to select one candidate for Position 2, currently held by Pablo Sedillo. The winner in Position 2 will serve for six years on the board. The term for Position 2 begins April 1, 2017 and expires on March 31, 2023. The forum will feature the two candidates running in the election: George Gamble and Pablo Sedillo. Audience members will have opportunities to ask questions.

Voters in the Feb. 7 school election may cast early ballots until Feb. 4 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday in Room 131 at the Santa Fe Community College, 6401 Richards Ave.; Nina Otero Community School, 5901 Herrera Drive; or Santa Fe Public Schools Educational Services Center, Conference Room A, 610 Alta Vista St. Early voting is also offered from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Santa Fe County Clerk’s Office, 102 Grant Ave. Applications for absentee ballots are available and can be delivered to the county clerk until 5 p.m. Feb. 6.
