Early Childhood Education and Care

New Mexico Child Care Finder

The New Mexico Child Care Finder is a tool to help families search for early childhood education and care providers. You can find education and child care centers, including Head Start/Early Head Start programs, and licensed and registered home-based child care providers on this site. We encourage you to follow up directly with each provider for more details about ages and hours of care and whether they accept child care assistance.

Head Start/Early Head Start

Head Start and Early Head Start are free early childhood education programs for income eligible children. You can use the “Find Program” tool on this national Head Start website to find the Head Start programs closest to where you live.

NM ECECD Child Care Assistance

NM Child Care Assistance is a state program to help families pay tuition costs for early childhood education and child care programs. You can apply for assistance online through the NM Early Childhood Education and Care Department website.

K-12 Schools and Afterschool Programs

Some afterschool programs are offered free of charge. For afterschool programs that charge tuition/a fee, you can also check if they take childcare assistance (for a child up to age 13). Many elementary schools offer afterschool programs. Check your school’s or school districts website for more information or ask at your child’s school.
