Description

The Department of Online Teaching and Learning provides faculty with support and training for Santa Fe Community College’s (SFCC) learning management system (LMS,) higher education quality standards and industry’s best practices for teaching and learning in online, web-blended (hybrid) and face-to-face (f2f) courses. Focused on nurturing excellence in teaching, course quality improvement, faculty collaboration and mentorships, OTL aids highly qualified educators and promotes excellence in education through the effective utility of SFCC’s LMS and other technology. OTL serves the student community by consulting with faculty to produce high quality courses online.

OTL supports instructors’ teaching via our LMS, Canvas. If you have never used Canvas, OTL recommends you take the Canvas Online Orientation to learn how to navigate Canvas. For information focused on teaching in Canvas, see the COVID Resources and the Training Services Portal, provided by Canvas to assist with moving courses online quickly.

One-on-one trainings are also available with OTL staff in the following areas:

  • Consultations for design and instructional strategies, utilizing instructional technology.
  • In-person orientation and training for faculty in Canvas (temporarily discontinued.)
  • Online Canvas Instructor Orientation.
  • Quality Matters training.
  • Advanced Methods in Canvas training.

Please see our Bookings webpage to schedule an appointment. Setting up a meeting through Bookings will schedule a virtual conference in Teams.

OTL is available for appointments regarding technological difficulties via Bookings, as well. Please refer to Canvas Support options first, as we are not dedicated technology support specialists.

OTL provides one-hour Canvas Orientation sessions for students who are new to online learning. They are held the first two weeks of the Fall and Spring semesters. Before each semester, see Campus Announcements in MySFCC for the schedule. After these scheduled dates have passed, we offer a single, one-hour session by request.
