The slogan at Mesalands Community College is “Come Grow With Us!” and declares our purpose and our future.

Mesalands is the youngest of the New Mexico 2-year institutions of Higher Learning but has stepped forward to lead in many areas. Known for its innovative approach to education and programs, Mesalands has enjoyed a continued growth in enrollment since being named Mesa Technical College by the New Mexico Commission on Higher Education in 1994 and then Mesalands Community College in 2001.

Featuring unique programs in technology, Mesalands enjoys international recognition for its high caliber instruction in Wind Energy Technology, Fine Arts Bronze, Paleontology, and Farrier Science. It is the only college able to claim to have the “Tallest Classroom in the World” with its nearly 400′ tall, commercial capacity wind turbine being installed on campus. Under the name of North American Wind Research and Training Center, the turbine provides essential hands-on training for future wind energy technicians.

Being one of the smallest colleges in the state is an advantage to the students who study at Mesalands, where classes are small and students can receive ample assistance in completing their course work successfully. But the quality of education is not compromised because there is a highly qualified faculty and staff at Mesalands, and programs in place to provide assistance to students at all levels of their college education.

Mesalands offers the Associate of Applied Science degree for its Educational and Technical Plans of Study, and Certificates for selected areas of study. Mesalands’ general education courses are included in the New Mexico Higher Education Department matrix of courses for articulation among two- and four-year colleges in the state. Students from Mesalands Community College have been very successful in transferring credits and making the transition into four-year colleges in the state.

In September 2004, Mesalands was granted a 10-year accreditation status by The Higher Learning Commission, a Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA).

Many Mesalands students prefer to take advantage of the numerous courses available through our Distance Education courses, and study in the convenience of their own homes. And many students on campus obtain financial assistance through federal grants, local scholarships, Mesalands Community College Foundation scholarships, and other resources available through the College Financial Aid Office.

Mesalands’ campus is situated at 911 South Tenth Street in Tucumcari, New Mexico, approximately 100 miles west of Amarillo, Texas, and 168 miles east of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Tucumcari, located in the eastern part of the state and surrounded by scenic mesas, is recognizable by its landmark, the 5,000-ft. butte known as Tucumcari Mountain. Interstate Highway 40 and U.S. Highway 54 converge in the city, making it a cross-roads for travelers headed in all directions. They are all invited to “Come Grow With Us!”
