Celebrating Student Parents and Faculty Achievements
SFCC Celebrates National Student Parent Month

September is National Student Parent Month, and SFCC proudly recognizes the 25% of undergraduate students who are also raising children. Many are first-generation students, balancing school and family while paving the way for future generations.
SFCC supports student parents through family-friendly campus spaces, the Student Parent Success Program, priority access to Kids Campus, Title IX accommodations, and lactation spaces. This month, we celebrate their dedication and perseverance in earning degrees while nurturing their families.
Laura Smith contributes chapter on Student Parent Support

Collections and Instruction Librarian Laura Smith has contributed a chapter, Caring for Caregivers: Supporting Student Parents with a Family Study Room, to the new book Valuing the Community College Library: Impactful Practices for Institutional Success (ACRL).
Her chapter highlights SFCC’s Family Study Room as an innovative, inclusive space that supports student parents balancing caregiving and academics. The chapter encourages community college libraries to expand their role in equity and student well-being. Read the full chapter here.
