SFCC boosts career readiness with free fall bootcamps
Santa Fe Community College is expanding access to high-quality, hands-on training this fall with two free bootcamps designed to support New Mexico’s growing workforce needs. These short-term programs offer practical experience, valuable industry certifications, and clear entry points into high-demand careers. Through partnerships and grant funding, SFCC continues to remove barriers and create opportunities that help learners build a better future for themselves and their communities.
The first offering is the Hybrid and EV Operations Bootcamp, which begins October 3 and runs on Friday mornings through December 19 at SFCC’s Automotive Technologies Center. As electric and hybrid vehicles become more common, the need for trained technicians is growing. This bootcamp introduces participants to the core systems used in hybrid and electric vehicles: batteries, inverters, motors, regenerative braking, and more. Safety is a central part of the training, along with diagnostics and emerging technologies like autonomous features. Graduates will earn two credentials: a CDX certificate in Hybrid & EV Systems and a Snap-On NC3 Volt Ohm Meter Certification.

In mid-October and again in November, SFCC will offer its popular Fiber Optic Technician Bootcamp, a five-day intensive training held at the Santa Fe Higher Education Center. The sessions run October 14–18 and November 17–21. Designed for beginners and those looking to add new skills, this bootcamp teaches participants how to install, splice, test, and maintain fiber optic cables—key components of broadband and telecommunications systems. Graduates earn three certifications from the Fiber Optic Association and are eligible to pursue a broadband pre-apprenticeship with local employers.

Both bootcamps are offered at no cost to qualifying New Mexico residents, thanks to support from public funding aimed at workforce development. These programs reflect SFCC’s broader mission to support student success and meet the needs of the region through accessible, responsive education. By offering pathways into careers that are both in demand and essential to New Mexico’s future, SFCC continues to play a vital role in building economic resilience and creating opportunities for lifelong learning.
