Faculty and Staff Updates

Dr. Aamna Nayyar, Director of Dental Health, has been selected by the American Dental Education Association to help update the 2026 ADEA Curriculum Guidelines for Allied Dental Education Programs, contributing to the Dental Materials and Dental Radiology sections.

Dr. sj Miller, Professor of Teacher Education, has been invited to serve as guest editor for The Reading Teacher, a leading international journal for K–6 literacy educators. sj’s work will spotlight equity in multilingual, multicultural, and LGBTQIA+ curriculum and pedagogy.

In February, Director of Dental Health Dr. Aamna Nayyar was the guest speaker at the International Women Day Brunch, hosted by the Raindrop Foundation, Inc. She spoke about women leadership and work-life balance.

Culinary Arts Program Lead Jerry Dakan is among the participating chefs in Taco Wars 2025 this May.


Nicholas Wernicki, (left) Associate Dean of Continuing Education and Workforce Development, and Benjamin Lincoln, (right) Director of Continuing Education presented a session at the 2025 LERN Leadership Conference in San Antonio, highlighting SFCC’s successful initiative to expand community and corporate partnerships in Continuing Education. The effort has doubled the average size of off-campus CE courses.

Dr. sj Miller, Professor of Teacher Education, will speak at the American Educational Research Association’s annual conference as part of an Invited Presidential Address titled “Challenging Anti-Trans Politics: Fighting back through Intersectionalities,” taking place April 24 in Denver.

Shane Tolbert, Academic Director of the School of Art and Design, is exhibiting his mural “Untitled (Desert Garden)” in the group show “In the Making” at City Centre Houston. The exhibition runs from March through September 2025 and highlights experimental approaches to mark-making and material-driven practices.

Jared Weiss, Program Head of Drawing and Painting is having an exhibition “Portraits” at Iconic Lupe, 314 S. Guadalupe, Santa Fe, presented by Curate Santa Fe (curatesanta.com). The exhibition opened on Saturday, April 19. The show runs through June 10.
SFCC English faculty members Genevieve Betts, Jared Valdez, Stanley “Austin” Eichelberger, and Joseph Klemens presented at the prestigious Association of Writers & Writing Programs (AWP) Conference in Los Angeles on a panel about using Open Educational Resources in literature and creative writing courses. Following the panel, Alyssa Milano interviewed Valdez and Eichelberger for a podcast episode, now available on Spotify.
