In Memoriam: Nicole Berezin

Nicole Berezin, our lovely friend and colleague, was diagnosed on August 9 with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer. She was moved from her home in Albuquerque to Denver University Hospital on August 31 so that her two sisters could support and care for her. After it became clear that future chemo treatment was not an option, she was moved to Denver Hospice on September 13.

For those of you who signed her quilt, sent messages on Facebook, etc., Nikki’s sister Lara read all of the prayers and comments to her in hospice in the days before she passed. Nicole died September 16. There will be no family memorial service as she was able to have a farewell dinner with friends in Albuquerque before moving to Colorado. An obituary is planned for the Albuquerque Journal and we will post that when it becomes available.

Friends on Facebook are going to put together a memorial slide show and post it soon. If you have photos that you would like to share, please message Karen Kinsman from Nikki’s Facebook page. If you would like to make a donation in her memory, you can support the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. If you would like to send a sympathy card to her sisters, email Jill Carlson and she can send you the address.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to her sisters, Lara and Lynn. Nicole touched so many lives at Santa Fe Community College and she is greatly missed.
