Probationary Period

Modified: May 16, 2017

The initial period of full- or part-time regular employment by employees who are hired to fill regular positions. The probationary period consists of unbroken employment status for one year from date of hire in the same position the employee was hired in. If an employee transfers to another position during their probation period, the probation period will start over at the time of transfer not to exceed 18 months. In the event of a College-initiated reclassification of a position into a different employee type, the new classification of the position with similar duties will govern the probationary period. During the probationary period, a Probationary Employee is not eligible for Earned Educational Leave. A Probationary Employee may be terminated with or without cause and with or without notice. If the employee successfully concludes the probationary period, the employee automatically becomes a Regular Employee. If there is attendance, conduct or performance deficiencies during the Probationary Period the supervisor may, in lieu of termination, extend the employee’s probationary period for up to six additional months with the approval of Executive Director of Human Resources. A decision to terminate a Probationary Employee is not subject to appeal or review except pursuant to the SFCC Employee Concerns and Complaints Policy 4-3 for a violation of College policy.
