Santa Fe Community College Celebrates Black History Month with the two-day event “Shades of Color” from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Tues. and Wed., Feb. 20 and 21, in the Jemez Rooms at 6401 Richards Ave.
Special guest speakers include writer and genealogist George Geder presenting a multi-media overview of Black history on Tues., Feb. 20;
and UNM professor of Africana Studies, Dr. Jamal Martin discussing the Black experience in contemporary America on Wed., Feb. 21.

Writer and researcher George Geder will present a timeline of the history of African Americans in the country. Geder considers himself an evangelist for African ancestor genealogy and is a strong advocate for having all cultures and family lifestyles heard and represented. He is president emeritus of the Santa Fe NAACP. He was featured on the PBS show “The History Detectives” and has appeared on PBS’s “New Mexico in Focus.”
