SFCC announces free information sessions on PRO-TEC program

Participants prepare for industry certifications

 

SANTA FE, NM – Santa Fe Community College in partnership with Santa Fe County and the Northern Area Local Workforce Development Board announces a series of free information sessions on Jan. 22, Jan. 24, Jan. 27 and Jan. 29 about the Professional Readiness for Technical Careers (PRO-TEC) program, which begins Feb. 26 at the college.

 

PRO-TEC offers preparatory training for entry-level employment in a variety of industries and is designed for individuals who are currently unemployed, underemployed or looking to increase their hire-ability in Santa Fe County. Accepted participants will prepare for industry certifications (social media, IT, leadership) through hands-on workshops and gain key job readiness skills through hands-on workshops and gain key job readiness skills in the 130 hour intensive training program starting on Feb. 26. The classes are from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Feb. 26 through March 9. After the March 9 graduation, participants will intern with Santa Fe County businesses for 100 hours March 10 to May 30. Training scholarships and stipends are available to qualifying participants.

 

All applicants must complete a Work Keys assessment before or when they apply for the program. To schedule you Work Keys assessment, contact your local Workforce Connections office or Ted Lech at 505- 428-1748 or at thaddeus.lech@state.nm.us.

 

This is the third year for the program.  PRO-TEC has served more than 45 Santa Fe County residents with an average 80 percent post-program employment rate.

 

The public is invited to learn more about the PROTEC educational opportunity at four free Santa Fe information sessions:

  • 10 a.m., Mon., Jan. 22 at New Mexico Workforce Connection, 301 W. DeVargas Street. (Check in at front desk for conference room designation.)
  • 10 a.m., Wed., Jan. 24 at New Mexico Workforce Connection, 301 W. DeVargas Street. (Check in at front desk for conference room designation.)
  • 4 p.m., Sat., Jan. 27 at Santa Fe Community College, 6401 Richards Ave. (Room 563)
  • 5:30 p.m., Mon., Jan. 29 at the Santa Fe Higher Education Center, 1950 Siringo Road. (Room TBA)
