ENLACE Program Components

College awareness and preparation

ACT (College Placement Exam) Test Preparation – A 16 hour ACT test preparation workshop is offered afterschool or on the weekends by Kaaplan (kaptest.com) trained instructors. This workshop teaches students effective test taking strategies and has proven to effectively increase ACT test scores.

College campus visits and camps – Students visit the University of New Mexico, New Mexico State University, Santa Fe Community College, New Mexico Highlands University, and other colleges to help them learn about the variety of post-secondary options available to them. Bringing students onto college campuses provides a crucial opportunity for students to imagine themselves as a part of the college environment.

Teacher Professional Development

ENLACE partners with SFPS  to provide a rigorous curriculum that promotes student achievement at the highest levels: It lays out a pathway to student success.

Student Leadership Development

ENLACE Student Leadership Academy – Students enroll in SFCC’s Service Leadership class for dual credit. They are trained as community leaders and facilitators. These students then conduct a variety of focus groups and leadership projects with younger students designed to motivate and inspire younger students to strive for their best and pursue a college degree. To learn more about the most recent ENLACE Service Leadership project, take a look at the compiled focus group results and recommendations in the report Challenges and Solutions to Closing the Achievement Gap

Si Se Puede Conference – ENLACE student leaders design and facilitate a conference for middle school students aimed at increasing college awareness at the middle school level. This conference brings middle school students onto SFCC’s campus and the interactive workshops are led by trained student leaders.

Parental Engagement

Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) Nights – ENLACE partners with schools to sponsor a series of FAFSA nights aimed at increasing the number of students who successfully complete the FAFSA by the required deadlines.

Scholarship Nights – ENLACE brings representatives from a variety of scholarships to share information on scholarship opportunities. Students receive information on how to write an effective essay and what selection committee’s look for when reviewing scholarship applications.
