Certificate in Personal Care Attendant

This certificate prepares students to enter the healthcare profession as an entry-level personal care attendant (PCA). Major topics include basic principles related to personal care skills related to activities of daily living, client and environment safety, and healthcare ethics.

Learning Outcomes

Upon competition of this program, students will be able to:

  • Apply PCA skills in assisting clients, providing client privacy and rights, and in client observation and reporting.
  • Demonstrate communication skills that are sensitive to age, gender, culture, and medical condition.
  • Demonstrate competence in infection control practices, client safety, and first aid administration.
  • Demonstrate ability to identify safety issues and apply emergency procedures in both home and institutional settings.
