Overview:
Santa Fe Community College (SFCC) engaged Bolton Rewards (Bolton) to review its broad-based pay program for 390 faculty and staff across 330 job titles.
Bolton gathered information through leadership interviews, live and virtual employee meetings, and an in-depth analysis of existing job descriptions and Position Information Forms (PIFs).
They then conducted a custom pay survey among peer institutions, supplemented by relevant published surveys, to pinpoint how SFCC’s current compensation levels and practices compare to the broader market.
From these findings, Bolton identified gaps related to compensation and equity, and recommended specific enhancements to align SFCC’s pay structure with its institutional goals.

Data Sources:
Nineteen (19) Community Colleges responded to our request to participate in the Compensation Study from the Southwest Region, including New Mexico, Texas, Arizona, and Colorado.
Results:
SFCC’s actual pay is competitive with the 50th percentile (median) market sectors for both Faculty and Staff.
Staff: 97.8 % of 50th percentile
Faculty: 97.5 % of 50th percentile
While competitive salary range is 90% to 110% of the 50th percentile (median) point, the study identified some staff members who falls below this range in the new proposed salary structure.
As such, the College is considering a phased salary adjustment for employees, starting with those 80% below the market and 80% to 89.9% of the market. And moving to 90% to 100% of the market next, as funding becomes available.
