CLEP & DSST
The College-Level Examination Program (CLEP)
SFCC is classified as an National Open CLEP center, meaning that anyone can take CLEP exams through our Testing Center, not just SFCC students. If you are interested in sitting for a CLEP examination, call the center for more information. You may take any exam offered by CLEP, but each college and university has its own rules about what tests/scores are accepted for credit at that institution. You are responsible for knowing which test you need and which tests and scores will be accepted by your school or program. - Once you have identified your preferred testing date, you must contact the SFCC Testing Center to reserve a space. To make a reservation, please call 428-1625. If for some reason, you are unable to make the reserved testing date, we ask the courtesy of a phone call at least 24 hours in advance.
- On the day of testing, you should arrive 30 minutes early to take care of any paperwork and fees. The cost of the CLEP examination is $80 per test, paid online by credit card only. There is an additional, non-refundable $15 administration fee per test payable by check (if you are an SFCC student), cash, money order or credit card at the SFCC Cashier's Window. You must present a receipt from the Cashier's Window before you can sit for the exam. The total cost for a CLEP examination is $87 ($90 beginning 7/1/12).
- Unofficial scores are received immediately for all CLEP exams except the English Composition with Essay exam. Those results are mailed directly to the examinee in approximately 3 weeks. All official scores are sent directly from ETS; the Testing Center cannot issue official scores.
Dantes Subject Standardized Test (DSST)
Formerly known as DANTES exams, DSSTs are available to anyone who wishes to take them. Like CLEP, the acceptance of DSST tests and scores is determined by the policies of each college and university. You can order study guides through the following website: http://www.getcollegecredit.com/test_takers/ .
Examinations must be ordered at least two weeks in advance of the planned test date. You can review the list of offered exams at the SFCC Testing Center and decide which exam you wish to take. At that time, an order is faxed to the DSST Service who will then ship the requested exam(s) to the Testing Center. Once the exam has arrived, you will receive a phone call confirming its arrival and the desired testing date.
- The cost of the DSST examination is $80 per test, paid by credit card only to The Chauncey Group. Credit card payment forms are available at the Testing Center and are submitted to the testing service along with the exam answer sheets. There is an additional, non-refundable $15 administration fee per test payable by check (if an SFCC student), cash, money order or credit card at the SFCC Cashier's Window. You must present a receipt from the Cashier's Window before you can sit for the exam. Total cost for a DSST examination is $95.
