SFCC Galleries Celebrate Hispanic

Work by Charlie and Debbie Carrillo, Cordelia Coronado, Michael Griego, Nicholas Herrera (piece shown at right), Félix López, Joseph López, Ramón José López, Krissa María López Moya, Arlene Cisneros Sena, Daniel Tafoya and others will be part of this extensive exhibition featuring traditional artists of the Río Grande Valley. Siegfried Halus, director of SFCC’s department of fine arts, is the exhibition’s curator. Examples of retablos, bultos weaving, tinwork, ceramics, alter screens, furniture and silver work will be on display. Also as part of the exhibition, Alejandro López, adjunct professor in Chicano studies for the University of New Mexico, will present a lecture titled “Currents in Río Grande Indo-Hispanic Arts” at 1:30 p.m. on March 25 in Room 727 at SFCC. Students from the SFCC culinary department will prepare and serve appetizers and refreshments during the March 11 opening; and music performed by SFCC faculty and students during the opening will illustrate the history of traditional arts in northern New Mexico. The exhibition runs from March 11 to April 21 in the Visual Arts and Main Entry galleries at Santa Fe Community College. The galleries are open to the public from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Mondays through Fridays at no charge. The college is located at 6401 Richards Ave., approximately 2.5 miles south of Rodeo Road.
