Michael Alexander was born and raised in Philadelphia. He received a B.A. in psychology from Haverford College and Master's degrees in counseling psychology and education from Columbia University. If this sounds like he was focused on becoming a counselor, it's true; but teaching was something he never originally considered. Michael has also worked as a proofreader, a home health aide, a props manager for a theater company, and a singer. When he came to SFCC, he started as a tutor, then began teaching a mix of college success classes, English, math, and psychology. He joined the full-time faculty in 2004.

Dr. Bernadette Jacobs has seventeen years of teaching experience and has won multiple teaching awards. Bernadette holds a doctorate in clinical psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute, a masters in counseling and guidance from Loyola Marymount University, and a bachelors in psychology from California State University, Dominguez Hills.

She has been a licensed clinical counselor in New Mexico since 1994. Her areas of interest include psychopathology, treatment, and Jungian psychology. Bernadette has an interest in study abroad, as well. In 2011, she and a colleague took a class to Athens, Greece, to study Greek art history and the mythological and archetypal patterns of human behavior. Bernadette is passionate about the learning process and the possibilities that it affords.
