Student Degree Status

  • Degree Seeking: If you intend to pursue an associate's degree or certificate in a given field, you are a degree student. Only degree students are eligible to apply for federal financial aid, veterans' educational benefits, and many other forms of financial assistance. Degree students also must provide proof that they have completed high school or have earned a GED diploma.
  • Degree-seeking students should speak to the counselor or adviser in your academic school when you have accumulated 24 or more credits.
  • Non-degree seeking: If you are taking courses for personal enrichment or job enhancement but do not plan to complete a degree or other specific program of study, you are a non-degree student; however, non-degree students can apply for degree status and apply appropriate credits toward a degree or certificate program at any time.

Students with special needs can get more information from our Disability Services web pages.

Returning Students

  • If you have not registered for courses at SFCC in the past five years, you must complete a new admission form. Hard copies of admission forms from students who are inactive for five years are destroyed per New Mexico state records retention policies. Apply online now.
  • If you have registered only as a CONTINUING EDUCATION student, you will also need to complete an admission form. Apply online now.

Transfer Students

If earning a bachelor's degree is on your itinerary, our transfer programs prepare you to move to a four-year university. Our associate in arts and associate in science degrees are patterned after the lower division courses at universities. You get the required general education courses at SFCC, plus you can select an area of specialization to study later on. Learn more about transferring to and from SFCC.
