About the Program
The Bilingual Education Endorsement Program is a 12 credit-hour program. This program facilitates achievement of the New Mexico Public Education Department (NMPED) bilingual education teacher competencies and provides a means for NM teachers to add the bilingual endorsement to their teaching licenses. The courses are systematically organized into a natural sequence of integrated subject matter. Spanish and English are both used as a language of instruction in EDUC 220 and EDUC 222. Participants must pass the "La Prueba" Spanish Language proficiency test before applying for the bilingual endorsement with the NMPED.
Basic Requirements for Admission:*
- Copy of Level 1 Teaching License or higher
- Completion of Bilingual Endorsement Program Application
- Official college transcripts for all undergraduate and graduate study (if transferring in credits from another institution)

The New Mexico Spanish Language Proficiency Exam (Prueba de Español) is the test used for persons seeking to add a bilingual education endorsement to a New Mexico teaching license. The Test is administered through a partnership with Eastern New Mexico University. See our Testing Center website for more information.
